On the bottom is the 2025 F150 Lightning (Electric) fully optioned with my choices. Cost is $67k as you can see.

Question: Why is an electric pickup cheaper than a hybrid pickup ?

Why shouldn't I buy the electric pickup truck ? Many, many people have advised me against it. They give no reasons though.

The way I see it, it has better fuel economy, costs $18k less, and has the same capability as the hybrid pickup.

electric systems require a full replacement in 6-10 years, even if you baby the shit out of them
you are unable to travel long distances and must wait hours for it to recharge vs a few minutes for a full tank of gas
the engine is a piece of shit and the entire thing is built to fail spectacularly in order to get you to buy another one
the ONLY reason to get an F150 is if you get the real motherfucking engine that can go 300-500k miles, otherwise it's just a clownsuit for garbage parts

My neighbor bought a lightning. He had to pay like $20k to get the charger installed at his house and the range and charge time were always terrible. He had a ton of problems with that thing. Meanwhile I had a 5.0 coyote and loved my truck.

The battery in the electric car is going to go to shit 5-10x faster than a transmission on a gas or diesel truck and cost 5-10+ times more to fix it. Also if your electric vehicle catches on fire it's over. You better hope nobodies inside and that it's not in your garage because nothing is putting that fire out. Also get used to waiting hours to recharge instead of a few minutes to fuel up.

Because the pure electric market has saturated and people are instead choosing hybrids to try to avoid some of the downsides that pure EVs have.

Range and refuel time when away from home. If these matter to you then you are probably going to be happier with the hybrid. Many people have discovered that that towing/hauling really hurts the range on EVs, and those wait times to charge can be quite irritating. Even a “20 minutes to 80%!” Isn’t great when it’s for 80% of 300 miles and it’s compared to 100% of 500-800 miles (depending on tank size.. which you can easily change) In less than 10 minutes.
That said, you know your driving habits better than we do. You know how you are going to use the thing. Be honest with yourself, after all you are looking to spend ~$70,000.
That’s said, personally, I’d get a diesel.
