My neighbors homeschool their kids and (according to the mom) they always score among the top percentile on all their assessments. They do seem a bit smarter than the typical zoomie to me. You have to enroll your kid into the closest school, you tell them you're going to homeschool and they give you everything you need and tell you what you're legally obligated to teach them. Homeschool is unrealistic for most parents unless they are stay-at-homes, and even then, I think going to a traditional school is better for children than homeschool. With that being said, a parent who blindly walks their child through the education system (especially the American one) without being some sort of guide or having some sort of agency on how their child's education is played out is borderline neglectful.
