Eat unprocessed whole foods like whole grains, legumes, potatoes (not fried), vegetables and fruits. Fiber makes you feel full so you don't even have to eat less. Significantly reduce meat, dairy, eggs, processed foods and fats/oils as those are very high in calories and it's very easy to overeat because they're so tasty. There are other issues like saturated fat from meat/dairy causing insulin resistance which makes weight gain easier (high insulin levels) so avoid it.
