Geographically it's clearly in the middle of Europe. Politically Poland isn't part of eastern block anymore. And last but not least - Poles are WESTERN Slavs. To sum it up - there are literally NO reasonw to call Poland (and Czech or Slovakia) "eastern Europe". We are getting back to DEFAULT settings.

Poland it's because you're slavic. Romania, Hungary, baltics, etc are because they all are and/or were economically, politically and historically different from "Western Europe" at some point. I must admit that this perception likely derived from the Cold War, but it isnt just that. If communism was the defining factor East Germans would be consires part of "Eastern Europe" too (I think if they maintened theor independ state they'd be consired "eastern" ironically. As for the sorbs, it's easy to explain. For example, if Prussia and East Brandenburg was still part of Germany it would be considered "Western Europe", since sorbs arent an autonomous nation but they live in Germany, under german laws, etc they are in "Western Europe" as germans de jure/subjects.
