It's not that. America used to pay livable salaries for even the unskilled labor, as long as they actually worked. Now, useful job pays pennies while completely unnecessary "jobs" like majority of corporations offer pay much better, but are primarily given to useless people. It's slowly, but surely, starting to change. People with trade skills are earning more and more, while those with some useless degrees like philosophy are stuck trying to find whatever busywork opening because they consider themselves too intelligent to actually do things.
