I’m 35. Got laid off from a field 3 years ago and trust me the field doesn’t exist for American workers anymore. Skills don’t transfer so I’m basically a guy with a degree who has used spreadsheets and can type in English.

My parents are bugging me to get a job. I moved in with them to help out a hospitalized sister who is better. Never found work.
They want me to go work at the local chipotle. I tell them that would be fine but ask “and then what?” And they seem to think “well you have to start somewhere”

If the farms in your region use a lot of foreign labourers something they love to see is if you have some proficiency in their workers language, I recommend an app like duocards or anki for learning in tandem with actually practicing with native speakers at work every day, thats how I learned basic polish and am about to start on romanian. Its amazing how much progress you can make in a few months just by spending 10-15 minutes every day on your lunch break with studying.
The first year is going to probably suck a little if youre not already handy with tools and operating vehicles etc. but anyone can learn that stuff if they bring a little motivation to the table, definitely not as hard (and not as much of a boring slog) as getting a degree.

Electrical is a good gig. I did history at uni, couldn't get shit when I graduated, started labouring, got quals to become a sparky, now I make good money as a maintenance engineer. It takes a couple of years, but you can get a skilled trade that's respected and not too taxing on the body in a fairly straightforward manner. Other than that, I would suggest getting quals as a project manager, scrum master or surveyor of some kind, they make bank for doing sod all, but it shouldn't be too hard for you to get into. Or given you have experience with spreadsheets, you can even get some entry level accountancy quals, the exams are open to anyone to take, then work in finance doing something obscure, but in-demand and relatively easy, like insurance asset liquidation or something. Or you could try the data analyst route and learn some SQL, it's pretty simple.

I think the crux of the matter is that you have to decide what YOU WANT to do, and then work out the path to get there. Starting with whatever pizza delivery job you can get now. Stick anywhere for 2 years and you might get into a supervisorial or managerial role, but fuck that personally. Have you thought about freelancing doing the job you were doing before? You'd be surprised what kind of experience people will pay for.

If you have two degrees you'll likely qualify for jobs with really high incomes. But again, I don't think the labor market is able to sustain companies for very long so it's vital that you understand what's needed to self employ yourself. For example, in my circumstance, since I fuck around with computer hardware, I can repair phones and computers. I even have a friend that's good with it so I can always work with him to be able to better compete in the market. It's little things like that which can help you come a long way.
