It made me think this world is coming to an awful end.The fact that this shit racks up so much audience and is such a lazy run of the mill exploitation of an intellectual property shows how starved of originality this world is. When I was a kid there was something called "The Disney Renaissance" which meant that some good movies finally came out for once. I got to watch stuff like Little Mermaid, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Aladdin and other movies that were objectively pretty fun and good looking.

Now everything is ugly CGI, remakes, reboots, and cash grab garbage, all of it loaded with propaganda. On the cover of the Minecraft Movie, there is a dude with long hair, a pink leather jacket and other tranny stuff. Like its supposed to be a girl but also a guy but also fabulous but also tough, tranny shit. I didn't have to deal with that as a kid. Things have gotten worse.

No, the last chance to do that was in the 1960s but the damage from the Civil Rights act and the Warren Court is done. The United States as a civilization has been on a cultural down spiral since then. This is all a natural part of our civilizational life cycle. The United States, for better or worse, is a product of enlightenment thinking which was a new cultural movement. It spawned out of the 17th century with fresh ideas but those have become exceedingly stale. Historically it sees itself outside the cycles of history and your question itself is a result of this world view. In reality it is subject to the same tides. The idiocy you see now is the natural consequence of the enlightenment taken to its natural conclusion. We are all “free” technically but we are only allowed to express ideas that sit within a certain sphere. The system exists now only to preserve itself. It subconsciously knows it is dying but doesn’t express that knowledge. It will ask questions in articles like “why are people loosing faith in democratic institutions” while policies are taken only to undermine the public’s trust. In popular culture the expression of this disconnect is the constant publication of movies that are devoid of actual substance. The system is dead. We know it, the public knows it and deep down the system knows it. There is no course correcting. It has to implode for something new to emerge. Ironically enough the ideas that pre-date to the enlightenment will fill the void.

The world isn't coming to an awful end, but it's quite possible that western civilization is coming to an end. The culture borne out of the European Renaissance is ending. Just like the cultures of Ancient Rome and Greece have ended. The high points of our art and culture will live on, emulated by the Chinese and Asians in the new dominant world order.

There might still be time to reverse the decline, but it's going to take quite a while. We've been degenerating for about 30 years now. There was a stretch into the mid 2000s and early 2010s when some westerners were still creating truly good and innovative art in film and music, but today it's almost all completely derivative and uninteresting.

The truly dystopian prediction though isn't that China or some other nation/civilization takes over. The real dystopia is that Artificial Intelligence takes over, and that culture becomes frozen in time.
