The JF-17 is a joint Pakistan/China development and operated by both countries. It is modern, brought into service in 2007, and makes up the bulk of the Pakistani Airforce's combat power. It looks like it draws heavily from the F-16 and may be at least as capable (possibly more capable in some or all respects). You shouldn't underestimate it.
If the report of 5 pooplanes were shot down, that would be a significant amount of Indian warbirds as I’m sure most of the rest are not in service.

They might have done but I don't know. Certainly Pakistan has a lot of Western equipment (as well as more recently Chinese equipment) while India is mainly home grown or Soviet/Russian with apparently some French stuff too. Overall Pakistani equipment may be of higher quality but India has greater numbers. Not going through with buying the Su-57 might have hurt them quite a bit.

French jets are good but as most western weapons they are boutique pieces, grossly overpriced for what they are. Plus, it makes zero sense to get equipment from countries that have historically a bad disposition toward Serbia, and in case of any conflict we get into they don't approve of, they can simply close the tap on us, and deny maintenance, upgrades, weapon and spare part deliveries. For the price of one Rafale F4 (130 mil) we could get almost 2.5 J10CE (50-60 mil). It's that retarded
