It's a scale thing but tell any doctor you have four or so symptoms and you can get a diagnosis. I got treatment for anxiety and depression and during got a generic presentation on it in a group session and finally saw a reason for being so fucked up in the head but never sought a diagnosis. Lack of a persistent sense of self, idealizing and then destroying relationships, self harm to feel something, high risk behavior, suicidal ideation and drug use; none of these are really attractive to potential partners or society so I just moved on rather than let it be known. If you can function without mind bending pills and therapy try to do so. I feel like an alien at this point in life, had my boss giving me praise this week in a review, the one day soon you're going to be in my chair kind of speech, I can literally do no wrong and I was devoid of any real emotion that was probably warranted. People at work will often ask me what's wrong because they came up on me suddenly and I forgot to put a mask on, something I wasn't aware I was even doing for most of my life. Nothing really makes it better, but you can catch your behavior and try to mitigate it. Behavioral therapy is often touted, but you can change your behavior without a doctor. It's hard to stop things like recklessly driving due to there being no consequences, it took getting a job that drug tested to stop doing them and now all want to do is relapse, impulse control is just saying no. You can stop doing all of the wrong things but I can't stop wanting to do them especially when the going is rough. Some people make mental illness their personality and those people are the worst. But the behavior left alone at it's worst can lead to a much shorter and sad life.
