If you are designing the house from the get-go you can build it to work without electricity, and then have panels to provide power as a bonus. Use a soil closet instead of a regular toilet and just throw away the shit.
For water you don't need treatment unless you just HAVE to drink it. Use the untreated water to wash and shower in, water the garden, etc. Then drink purified water (you can just use a water purifier too).
We have set a bunch of standards for life that are no longer feasible. Just have to get a little flexible and you can make it into the next system easily.

you're saying this like people don't homestead successfully all over rural US. yeah it's challenging to have all the amenities (of which you need few to be happy and healthy) but over time you can improve and invest in it like any property with the added benefit of being more free than those propped up by the current systems designed to make you helpless and dependant. eating from your own garden and nurturing your own land to serve you and your family is the first step towards getting out of the matrix

exactly this. i have spent 5 years building up my place and im finally starting to really pump out food. its alot of work at times but you have lots of downtime too. also if i get sick of this i could easily sell the place for 4x my investment. its basically a fully functional homestead at this point.

I have a buddy that bought 50 acres off of Zyzzyx Road for $10k back in the early 00s just because it was cheap. Later on, he dropped another $8k on a well and bought broken solar panels from L.A. during some government auction for $1 a piece. Looked up how to repair them online, bought a prebuilt work trailer, hooked up the panels to buried batteries in the ground, and left a cellphone with hotspot plugged in. Now he's got a mini-farm out in the middle of the desert that he monitors and controls everything remotely and makes a mint selling produce and also worms with soil in dissolvable bags. Even if you don't intend to love on property like this, you can make it worth the investment.
