I remember those times. Yea there were upsides but i think thats because i was a kid and it doesnt take much to view the world in a magical lens at that age. Other than that I remember being constantly bored back then because entertainment was extremely limited back then, Internet either didnt exist or sucked, games weren't as plentiful or as good, unstoppable globohomo and everyone falling for it, outsides was fun sometimes but you couldnt do that for majority of the day etc.. why do people idolize those mediocre times so much?

Movies, video games, music, technology, etc. Are you honestly telling you didn't see the noticeable improvement of video games and video quality from the 90s to 2000s? There was a huge shit. We went from 8-bit gaming to 3d environments and actual music used in games. Compare that today from gaming from 2010, there's hardly any improvement. We went from standard 480i to HD in the late 90s. From tapes to DVDs, CDs to iPods etc. Everyone was hopeful for the future because it improved our lives. There wasn't online spying, video surveillance, or smartphone recording to hamper us.

Kids went out more due the fact that we didn't have online shopping and delivery, let alone cellphones for most. When we went, it took effort and we actually had to commute to the mall, malls which don't exist today. Crime rate wasn't as bad, stores didn't have lock everything with a glass or a lock, and the wars back then weren't as terrible. Also, we didn't took in a million immigrants everywhere. The country was still 80% White.

My nieces, nephews and younger cousins don't go out anymore, everything they do is now online, whether that's shopping, watching movies, or even gaming together. The mall I used to go to with my brothers and cousins don't exist anymore, neither does the local film theatres. Affordable housing, bars, movies, local shopping, concerts, clubs, everything I did when I was younger has declined or disappeared altogether for the younger generation.

Yeah smart phones are really an addictive technology. We used to give our youngest the phone sometimes to facetime with relatives, but they would hold onto the phone like a crack addict.
