It has all the problems of general America though. Food is horrible. It's not a price issue, American basic ingredients are just bad, you can pay $200 for a meal, it tastes really good but you still feel better after eating McDonalds in Europe or Dubai. You would need a personal chef and import literally everything from other countries to have the food quality of a minimum wage worker in Europe. Government services barely work. High taxes. Police state, although on state level Florida is relatively ok in this regard (Texas is probably the worst).
Considering you have to eat literally every day and food impacts health and mental state, it's a very big issue.

City itself is relatively well maintained. Roads are good. Drivers are good. Shops are normal, and what I mean by that is that you can just go and take products off the shelf. In California 1/3 to 1/2 of everything is hidden behind a glass because of rampant shoplifting, which turns basic shopping into a humiliation ritual. I was in Miami area for a while and didn't see any homeless. I'm sure they exist, but it's not a visible problem. In LA you have to literally walk over homeless drug addicts laying down on sidewalks during the day and especially night.

Crime is relatively (for America, lol) low. You can actually explore the city on foot at night and it's good. This sounds normal for non-Americans, but in places like Los Angeles you're actually risking your life and over a longer time you will get robbed by some junkie with a gun.

People confuse "Miami" with "Miami Beach". They are miles apart and separated by a long causeway. Miami Beach is tragic. Packed to the gills with obese blacks on vacation, walking around in skimpy bikinis, pretending to be rappers, and screeching about "muh South Beach". It's also gridlock traffic 24/7. Basically assholes trying to feel cool because they're in "South Beach".

The city of Miami is actually pretty cool. It's mostly spanish speaking. Little Havana has great food and music. It's not trendy, nor full of douchebags like Miami Beach. It's mostly conservative for a big city. It's run down in quite a few areas, but has no areas that are like no-go warzones like Chicago or NYC. There's nice nature preserves to visit, and a nice design district if you're into that. It's less black and less faggy than other large cities, but you have to be ok with being surrounded by cubans.

Personally, I really enjoy it, and I'm not a beach person. You can go to a nice restaurant at night, no black people, have awesome food, listen to a great cuban band. It's not expensive either.

Used to be a pseudo-third world shithole back in the 2010s, but ever since COVID hit its become quite nice, especially in the Brickell area/Downtown. Construction is booming like crazy there on the level I haven't seen since I was in Vietnam a few years ago. A lot of it is unrecognizable now from even just a decade ago in a very good way, almost like Singapore in some areas. They need to keep expanding the gentrification further West though, Overtown needs to be completely demolished at this point and rebuilt, its way too close to Downtown, and Little Havana needs to be condensed and built up more and become a Brickell-lite area before I give the city an official green light. Right now most development has just been along the intercoastal/Biscayne Blvd heading North/South, its a great start, but it now needs to start moving further West and inland and public transport/metrorail/metromover should be expanded further West inland with the development as well. If Miami can accomplish it will become the best city in the US by far, Brickell is already one of the nicest and most modern strips of real estate I have seen in the US, its just a bit small and needs to be expanded inland more.

I worked on a cruise ship for a while, and it was quite common for us to dock in Fort Lauderdale, near Miami. Honestly, I didn't find it a great place; too many highways and not enough space to walk. I don't know if that's something specific to this area or if it's widespread throughout the United States. But if you like walking, like me, you won't find it a very pleasant place. The beaches were fine, I suppose, but to be honest it was much better when we docked at the various Caribbean islands.

Another thing that caught my attention is that this city is home to people who literally can't speak English. More than once, I've had to stop speaking English and speak Spanish so people could understand me, especially Venezuelans and Puerto Ricans. That pisses me off a little. If you're going to move to another country, the least you should do is learn to speak the local language.
Anyway, if I had to rate it, it's a 6/10. The only really interesting thing is the beaches; otherwise, it's an unenjoyable city.

Lived in Florida for 14 years, mostly throughout my teens and early 20s. The trailers, although, obviously a little over-the-top, are very very representative of Florida. It surprises me sometimes, because there are a lot of things that are really only common knowledge amongst Floridian that they're sliding into the game, which really let's me know they've done their research; From the inclusion of "Gator land", to Raccoons digging through trashcans (literally happens all the time), to Iguanas roaming the streets of South Florida, to Gators, Rednecks, and Latin Americans, referencing clubs and other places which not only exist, but are genuinely well-known, etc.
That being said, this is ultimately a GTA game. Whilst they are taking a lot of their inspiration from real-life events, places, people-groups, etc., they are compacting it so that it seems like something crazy is going on every day or every couple hours, which, obviously, for the average Floridian, isn't happening. It's a state of 23 1/2 million people. The chances of actually being involved in something crazy is slim, but definitely not 0. They'll also obviously exaggerate criminal activity, since it is GTA.

Florida was Spanish territory until 1845. Thus, Cubans and other Spanish/Latin-Americans had already been living there for hundreds of years. Miami in particular has had a large Latin-American (particularly Cuban) population for a very long time, but you can still even see their mark in places like Tampa... Ybor city for example was at one point a large producer of cigars, particularly produced by a large Cuban and Spanish community in the 1800s and 1900s.

I've lived in Miami my whole life. It's not all glitz and glamor obviously, they're going to hype up all the elements for a GTA game. The main issues here are bad traffic every day except sunday, some real shit drivers, and yes it gets intolerably hot. If you don't speak at least a little spanish it's hard to get by, most every day you'll meet at least one person who can't communicate in english at all so it helps to know the simple stuff. Upsides, a lot of the smaller things are nice. Nature preserves, gardens and the upscale neighborhoods are beautiful with a big variety of trees and plants. I love the animals we have here, even if a lot of them are loose exotic species. There's a nice variety of restaurants, great local pizza and BBQ places. It's comfortable enough that I rarely travel. So I can't say it's a great travel destination but as my home, I'm fond of it.

Transform a city as fast and as good as Francis Suarez has and then we'll talk. Cubans are by and large Republicans btw.

Why did it need to be transformed in the first place?

The "Spanish only" thing, at least in downtown/Brickell and other Biscayne Blvd developed areas seems to have improved a lot over the past decade. Before English used to be frowned down on and aggressively pushed against, but now it seems like the locals have accepted that English is a main staple of the central areas of Miami now. I think all of the people from up North who flooded into Miami after COVID has seemed to improve this issue quite a bit. I expect it to get better as the years go on and more people from other parts of the US continue to move to Miami.

I've lived in florida for almost 30 years and have never been south of west palm beach. Once you hit like port st lucie on i95 the entire state changes, the people drive crazier, the language goes from english to spanish, the "police" don't even look american and speak in heavy accents.

It depends on what you consider white. Many cubans are around 95 to 100% spanish, but spaniards themselves are not white in the anglo american concept.
