Basically the whole hand & fingers thing, when coupled with a bipedal design, lets the designers replicate all low skill human work: stuff like sorting, part selection, tool selection, stocking. You cant imagine the amount of fuckups automated systems have. Its decades before those robots become cheaper then wagie slaves. Work in a factory and we have robots driving around pallets. As I said above, there is a reason for them being humanoid. They are supposed to replace humans in every possible aspect of life and, at least for now, work "alongside" human workers.

The idea is that you just change their programming and you can use the same robot for a different job.

I don't think it will work the way they want it, but they believe it and they will destroy our world trying to make it happen. It will eventually fail in some way, but the world will be fucked beyond repair anyway.

We made the world for people, so making a versatile humanoid robot makes sense in the long run.
