Out of all of the largest immigrant groups in the uk, Slavs are by far the ones most capable of integrating since they're genetically European and don't visually stand out unlike pakis or africans. If you ever moved abroad (press x to doubt) you'll quickly learn that you do not learn a language at C1 level from within in your own host country. Truly learning a language requires living in its country of origin, which does not occur overnight and requires years of practice in said country. I agree that it's even in the immigrant's best interest to learn English in Britain (assuming they are indeed an immigrant and not a tourist), and the fact is that most of them either already have or are in the process of doing so. It's just convenient and less weird to communicate with others* from your home country in your own language unless they grew up in the host country. Also if I live abroad, I will communicate with my children in my language with them for them to become bilingual as they will naturally pick up the language of the host country as they grow older. Not out of hatred towards the host country, but for the future benefit of my children to speak both (e.g.) English and my language. Yes, knowing multiple languages is an increasingly valuable skill.
