My grandpa had a wonderful life and a good group of buddies. They fished, hunted, golfed and volunteered together regularly. My grandfather had a good job in a White community that was safe and prosperous though. He was able to purchase a home at age 23. One can’t compare their lives to ours, theirs were magical. the old timers would sit outside local stores in groups of 10+, mostly whittlin (if you don't know, look it up; also called "making shavings" if you're gay) and just shootin the shit, and talking to passersby. it's literally all they did from dawn til whenever they ate supper and went to bed (all of them lived just down the road from whatever store they spent their time at). some stores would have tables set up inside the store where they'd just play cards/rook/checkers all day

this was obviously before every local store was owned by an indian or arab
