While the Royal Navy has previously been involved in Channel operations as part of joint efforts with the Home Office, Pollard clarified that “Defence assets are procured for Defence tasks” and are not primarily intended for border security operations. Like it or not, he is correct.
Except he's not, civilian government tells the military what to do, if they don't accede then you have grounds to purge them (which desu is long overdue) and allow more cooperative elements to rise to the top
So you send in your squad of marines, and the migrants puncture their own boats. You're then obliged to rescue them and bring them back to Britain. Meanwhile, the migrants themselves switch tactics and saturate controls by launching more dignhies than we can intercept. Unless you are prepared to shoot them dead on sight, there is not workable tactics we can deploy at sea. We are hogtied by the law of the sea. You can argue that the law does not apply when migrants intentionally put themselves in distress, but any government has to live with the PR of letting civilians drown at sea while British servicemen stand and watch. The British people simply will not tolerate that. I know I wouldn't. As a seafaring nation, it's not who we are.
Weak, feeble, reminds me of Tony's surprise, lack of vision, "not who we are", we're not even a seafaring nation anymore and originally we were a merciless pirate nation
