As for why not just be gay? I can list off personal reasons sure. Keep in mind I'm well aware of the health risks of injecting synthetic estrogen and really battled internally with doing it for a bit but I decided it was worth it even if I lived a decade less.
1) It makes me look cuter and age more gracefully, I couldn't imagine existing in a world where this wasn't the case because I don't have much value besides that, it let's me survive much how many women will settle for men just for safety or in worse cases use them. I'm working hard to not be useless though but I do feel the genuine spirit of a caretaker inside me though and I love taking care of my bf and assuming a traditionally female role (not that you need estrogen for that.)
2) I'm intersex (kleinfelters) and have always looked and been called a girl. My parents didn't groom me this is just how I naturally appeared they aren't accepting of me being trans so it wasn't anything like that. I've wanted to be actually female since I was 5 or 6 though, I got bullied at school and built a complex in my head over a decade that it would fix all my issues. People wouldn't bully me, could express myself more, etc. And it largely has fixed those issues, but more importantly fulfilling that internal strife has brought great relief.

Could I have taken other medications or seen a psych or "got over it"? Maybe, but this is the path I've chosen and I don't want to find a different one. I may be a bit biased and brainwashed myself here because I do try to take up seemingly reasonable stances of my people or at least entertain them as I have a lot of respect and love for them, so, the mask kind of melts into your soul in a sense.
3) I really enjoy having emotions. I really felt like before I took estrogen I had a curtain pulled over my soul. Everything feels so much brighter and wonderful now.
