How the fuck do I get hired working on boats...

How the fuck do I get hired working on boats? Got all the shit I need and just get ghosted or gatekept from entry level jobs. Why is every single job gatekept either by do nothing HR or "fuck you got mine" boomers? Also general maritime thread since inevitably some of you browse here.

Tanker.jpg - 4771x3976, 3.45M

it's easy. all you have to do is make sure that your father and your grandfather both worked on boats.

you move to africa or india where they let any jeet on board

Did you go to Maritime school? My buddy did but got kicked out for smoking weed.

I can safely file that under boomer nepotism then, like being a union electrician, longshoreman or anything else falling under that. Fuck MSC though, still not resorting to that shit.

everyone stfu, I need to ship a container anonymously around the world, how to go about this reliably?

become a stowaway, sabotage the vessel then offer your services

I’m pretty sure they only hire 3rd worlders on merchant ships.

if it needs to go all the way around the world, then why ship it at all? just hold on to it, since it'll wind up in the same place.

Nope, trying to get an entry level unlicensed (OS/Engine wiper) job. Signing up for potentially 6 figs of debt without ever being on a ship before is grade A retarded.

Both canada and the US have restrictions on that for domestic shipping.

Entry Level...

No need for more rowing niggers... Sry we are full... Get some education
/thread

stow away. reveal yourself once the ship is out of helicopter range. they'll put you to work and you can show 'em what you're made of. by the time you reach port, you'll be an indispensable part of the crew.
literally how everyone else does it.

debt for a trade ticket

No wonder you cant find jobs. Ships can only hire so many retards.

great minds think alike

No, its debt for a degree and an officer's license at a maritime academy.

Maybe join the Navy or Coast Guard, if that’s your only option and you don’t want to go to school

I want to work on a squid boat

I want to work on a squid boat

Being stuck on a small boat with a bunch of scumbag boomers and jaded Genx assholes sounds like Hell

Hell.jpg - 1024x1001, 170.24K

If you’re white and want to be in the merchant marine, give up. They only hire 3rd worlders and pay them very poorly. It’s not for you no matter how much you love the idea of being a sailor and how little 3rd worlders give a shit about the ocean.

I literally just started jerking it furiously like Alexander the Okay came back from the dead and gave the order, I jerked it so thoroughly man. I just straight up jerked it for like two hours.

Doesn't really work like that these days, being prior military isn't nearly the same as commercial shipping. It would be fine if I just wasn't getting stonewalled on jobs I fit the criteria for that are meant for completely entry level guys to do grunt work.

What part of retard dont you understand?
You willingly went into debt to compete against foreign shipmates.
That is fucking stupid.

The US at least has the Jones Act which protects mariner jobs here, but like I said before it's a boomer nepotism system.

isn't it phlips? why do you post flags like an indian?

Yes because that that is a very limited field so the insiders hang onto it with a death grip.

You willingly went into debt to compete against foreign shipmates.

Alright, this where we have a chat about reading comprehension. I specifically said that "going into 6 figs of debt without ever being on a ship is retarded." That sentence does absolutely nothing to imply that I did that, because I didn't.

Become a stowaway. Then once you're out at sea come out and swab the poop deck and don't stop until the Captain gives you a job.
Make sure your family knows you are there so if they force you to walk the plank they can sue.

Oh my bad youre still a retard since you cant work on a ship and have a cope for not going to the navy.
Yeah no shit the navy wont take you have druggy charges on your record.

I went through the SIU apprenticeship program to become an AB for free. It's a viable path if you're okay with a boomer nepotism racket.

speaking tagalo(n)g is more likely to work than going as stoaway

I was and am considering this, but everyone says the wait times are a year+ now to get a slot. Also considered Sailors Union of the Pacific but no way to get out to a west coast port even if they are more interested in hiring on OS'. How's the training and job opportunities for QMED? Figured I'd ask since I was more interested in engine work, also the AMO tech program but I probably have a better chance of hitting the lottery.

they hire Indians and Filipinos for ship work, the Houthi crisis showed that, no white people were harmed.

1) Be Greek Chad
2) Your family from a village of 500 people owns 20 oil tankers

Based and Onasiss pilled.

How does that pay in euros in Greece? I've seen european mariners say that jeets get paid better as officers since they don't pay taxes at sea at all while euros get their pay check eaten alive by taxes.

greece

taxes

Envelopes exist

I'm aware of MSC, I'm just not gonna die for israel. Do appreciate the honest effort post, but I've heard enough actual horror stories about the kind of urban youth MSC likes to hire that I prefer to steer clear until I've exhausted every other possible option. Getting there but not quite yet.

You aight malaka kek. It does seem like croats and greeks have a pretty big presence in international shipping compared to their country size.

to be an officer. engineer or deck, or electrician you join as a cadet, study a few years at sea ansd at college and you get your certificate.

Well let's be honest, Piney Point is so backed up you'll never get in that way, officer route takes years, and you don't want the largest employer of mariners in the nation. You can literally pack a seabag and knock on doors in the oil patch or Norfolk, or try little niche outfits like the SS Badger or ACL, but those are seasonal gigs and the season already started. You could try NOAA or USACE as government employers also, but much smaller fleets.

The best time to join the SIU was like three years ago. The post-Covid times made a lot of the old timers quit for good. As a result the SIU was down loads of ABs. That's when I signed up. I was in the Ft Lauderdale hall a few weeks ago picking up my vacation check and the job board was slim pinkins. I know it will be difficult but the SIU UA program is your cheapest and best bet to work in maritime.

but I've heard enough actual horror stories about the kind of urban youth MSC likes to hire

There will be no avoiding the Jacksonville people. Whatever route you choose.

You literally just go down to the office every day and ask if anyone in port is hiring.

I've been applying for tugs, ferries, research vessels and the great lakes cargo ships as well. Hell, I applied for part time bullshit too. I'll probably try spamming every ferry I can reasonably think of and the tugs. Inland barges are another idea. Tour boat cruises or tall ships could be a way in but I'm fuzzy on how that sea time would transfer over. Seems like once you finally get your foot in the door things open up completely. At this point I'm about to just offer to work free for a bit to be able to get past the experience paradox. Also, NOAA at the moment is on a hiring freeze iirc. I'll still throw in a piney point packet because why not.

You sound like you want deep sea, I wouldn't waste my time with some 99GRT ferry, those days won't count towards your AB unlimited. But you also had an interest in QMED? Where are you located?

Yeah it's looking that way. I was seriously considering the Seattle maritime QMED program but got waitlisted there. Any chance just sitting at a union hall might get me an OS job? I live a pretty short distance from one.
I swear I read a post on Anon Babble's maritime general talking about jacksonville blacks being absolutely feral, was that you? Also there are way more blacks than I ever expected doing this stuff. You would think the ocean being a giant pool would keep them away.

Jacksonville people

Add it to the list

NJ, near Philly but easy enough for me to get to Baltimore, NYC or Boston in a day or anywhere in between like Norfolk. I've heard dredges might be more what I'm looking for.

Any chance just sitting at a union hall might get me an OS job? I live a pretty short distance from one.

This is your best bet, you would be a C card and you would only be able to do a 60 day hitch. Once you have your foot in the door though you're golden.

Jacksonville people is an industry term. I absolutely did not come up with it. If you do manage to get a job on a ship they will be a hot topic of conversation during a crew change. Niggers cause problems for literally everyone. From the captain down to the ABs like me.

Talk to Sal

Any way I can shift the odds in my favor at all? I don't have BST or other courses at the moment and should get those ASAP. Would submitting a piney point application help me or hurt me trying to get an OS gig? I'm not hurting for cash, but I am going a bit nuts just waiting to get going with life otherwise I'd just wait a year for piney point or go to an academy.

I don't have BST or other courses at the moment and should get those ASAP.

This should be your first priority. stop posting and get those classes.

Union electrician here, no nepotism required in my state. Might be different elsewhere. We make $37 hr and will be making over $40 in a couple years. Contract already signed.

4 inescapable truths about hell

you mean 4 escapable lies? hell is a germanic word that the missionaries stole a thousand years later to scare people into converting, just like you're doing now. we don't owe the king of the jews anything

Now listen, you're not going to like this advice, but consider making an investment in your future and take a preemptive class, specifically basic training. My recommendation is this school: chesapeakemarineinst.com/product/basic-training-stcw-june-2-2025/. They are a small outfit and they work more with tugboaters and mom and pop companies. It'll be good to knock it out because if you ever go deep sea you'll need your STCW, and because it's a beginner class you're with a bunch of newbies to the industry and they can turn you on to resources you're not going to get on 4chins. USACE has a dredge in Philly.
We don't have a big nigger problem on the Great Lakes.

same thing in Canada with most good jobs

met many girls at the age of 20 already internship in federal government, parliament, etc. simply because uncle or daddy worked there

and me can't even get an interview with ~10y exp

other girls are in canadian space agency and similar just so they can look 'girls in STEM!!' and can't even get a job there

other companies filter me out with pronounce and other useless shit question

militrary contractor companies filter me out because i'm not mormon or some shit, apply again later with mormon names and they call back lmao

it's all ogre

We don't have a big nigger problem on the Great Lakes.

How is your Yemeni problem though?

stole

What are you? An Amerindian? How does one steal a word?

Typical union style jobs. Gotta know someone on the inside. Regardless of what anyone says, every union job requires someone to vouch for you except during desperate times when they have hiring events every 3-5yrs, depending on union. Even then, those that know someone in, get interviewed first.

fishing boats are jew hell
wasn't like that until the elites decided that the currency will be worth a 1/4th of what it was, meanwhile they also want us to have the economy of an asian fishing village

Youre a liar, or your union is super new and needs numbers to justify its existence. IBEW is one of the worst unions. Im making 30$ non union, maintenance electrician for schools. Theres non union gigs paying $45+ for electrical foreman but i dont want to dick around in construction anymore.

On the contrary anon I do appreciate that advice. A thousand is quite a bit of money but its either pay the money or keep rotting doing nothing. The sooner I get working the better, I'm not making anything right now and if you're not making any you're losing money.

Find me a hitch with no shitskins and I'm there.

Get some experience. Do a hitch in the Coast Guard. Learn some skills. Or head to Alaska and do a season on a fishing boat.

Flags of Convenience is nothing to do with who crews the vessel, it's just for tax avoidance purposes. Countries like Liberia charge fuckall to register a ship, after all it's free money to them.

I’m a licensed chief engineer (1600 ton)
It’s really hard to get into this industry and especially unlimited tonnage without going to school.

Tug boats are a lot easier, but the work is a lot harder and the conditions are worse.

I make crazy good money though, and have no college degree. The people I know who went to academy paid their loans off within two years.

Americans have it great with the jones act. Foreigners can’t steal our jobs and undercut our pay.

One thing I was considering was trying to backdoor my way into SUNY maritime by transferring in from regular SUNY and having all my gen ed taken care of and skip out on a year of tuition and room+board.

Why would you want to?

licensed chief engineer

1600 ton

Engineers define their licenses in terms of horsepower, not tonnage, faggot

Ask their counselors or whatever if you can do this. Probably a good way to go. I wish i had known about maritime academy when i was younger, it would have given me a lot more long term career options.

dco.uscg.mil/Portals/9/NMC/pdfs/checklists/mcp_fm_nmc5_41_web.pdf

Unlimited horsepower, 1600 ton.

the bible is a hebrew book later translated into greek. christianity didn't conquer germany until charlemagne gave jews special privileges and killed everyone who wouldn't convert. hel meant the land of the dead, and the eponymous goddess, until the missionaries twisted it into their weird sadomasochistic torture dimension
yeah
