What should be the lingua franca of the western world/europeans?

I´ve been thinking about it for a while. From my point of view, if my dreams were to be true, it would be latin (I have been learning it for two years now), but I know thats not possible. Even with ancient greek.

I would support latin or greek over any modern european language because Rome and the greek cities were the based of the west, specially latin was the language of the cultured elites until the XIX century. Moreover they have no nation today that holds them as a native language so they would be more neutral.

Given that it is not probable to revive them, the other major languages in Europe would be French, German or Spanish. In mainland Europe german and french have more speakers than spanish, but if we include the potential of the spanish speakers throughout the world spanish would be a good option for lingua franca i think, the problem is that Spain nowadays is even a gretaer meme than France and Germany but thats nother topic.

Personally as someone who enjoys learning languages, I hate english due to being so simple. I truly believe that it undermines the languages with which it has contact, for example swedish is being replaced by it, (and arab of course). And of course, I quite hate england, so whathever to weak its influence is good for me.

west europe should be german(its less popular than english but still enough ethnic euros speak it), east europe should be some slavic language

i've done some surface research. ancient greek was veryadvanced. more words than even english and others now.

latin obv secondary followed by native tongue(doesnt have to be the national language, can be a dialect version)

English should be the norm but reformed into a proper international language

Europe should speak Italian.

Latin not realistic.

Man, those fuckers ruling over us call themselves Elites and are paid extremely generously for it. It's about time they get filtered by learning a Patrician language if they really want the status and the perks. Moral will drastically improves. Imagine all those retards being gatekeeped HARD from the top positions. I'll laugh my ass off.

Never settle for anything less when openly discussing how stupid it is to have English as the official language when there is 0 English speaking country in the EU.

i do think nation states should be dissolved mostly because it destroys our regional cultures inside a nation state for the sake of one unified identity(like standard german instead of unique regional dialects). a united european superstate can be the broader state while regional entities will be akin to states or some other administrative body. this state will have one national language(would like german, but latin would be cool as well) followed by our regional language("bavarian" for example, its not necessary to learn a national language, like standard german, because people will communicate based on the european language)

Dont know krautanon, I think the romance languages are more important in the west

An obviously non biased romance speaker

Elaborate please, how would it be reformed to be a proper lingua franca?

Mostly scientific terms depending on the area, but latin had that influence too.

I have spoken with italians, and a lot of them hate their "own language" due to being an impostion of a certain dialect from tuscany, so Im not considering it.

Jajajajaja ok anon, you have point kek. But there will be a ton of people who will try to not have latin, for the same reasons you pointed out.

was more pragmatic, its harder to learn a new language in general and the most influential people in europe basically speak german(english is the most influential but i dont like the language being too popular globally)

I completely agree with you about protrcting the regional languages. But it would disolve Europe furthermore into countless nations, so maybe the main state could be hold, but for exmaple in Spain, instead of teaching a catalan to speak spanish, they should learn latin to communicate with other spaniards (even though I enjoy that they are forced to know spanish because I how the independentists are ruining Spain)

I see to main problems with using german as lingua franca.

1) You will have a lot of backlash from countries such as France or Poland etc, who due to historical reasons would hate to use german (the same problem I have with english for example)

2) We would have to hear every leftist in Europe crying because le nazis are back

Yea its just that people think a european body means getting rid of european cultures, this isnt the case, its the opposite. A euro body would be extremly federalistic, allowing euro entities to compete with each other while also being able to compete with nations like china etc. This means that even regional uniqness can survive in a broader superstate granting autonomy(they will obv communicate with their related entities, so like germans talking and workingwith each other and even compete against other euros)

when there is 0 English speaking country in the EU.

gernam and dutch are very related to english. its a germanic langauge. english is a europe language.

I would divide it by ethnicities and sub-grous making up the ethnic identity. So like german dub races saxons, bavarians, british people english (obv have their sub groups as well) scottish etc

English is a great language.
Grammar and pronounciation is all fucked up but it is very nice language.
German is shit tier with autistic grammar.
Spanish is quite nice.
French pronounciation is retarded so that won't do.
Italian is honestly very beautiful language but no one speaks it so it's a no go.

english is too popular, bad idea as a language even tho its probably the best suited

What would you do in Ireland? Its native language is almost dead, thanks to England, and it seems like it is not possible to recover it

English with all the French bullshit removed
youtu.be/aMA3M6b9iEY

you dont need to, the irish people however can run their administrative regions like they think. i was only trying to say that its not needed to try to create a national identity by "unifying" regional differences. obv, most of the irish language is gone, i imagine basically a huge ireland as a region(northern ireland included). i don't know about spain, but i would guess most spanish people stay together but again, i was jsut trying to say that its basically not necessary to force nationalism and basically return to some kind of middle ages level of autonomy(personally, i think one of the reasons for rapid euro advancement was so many ethnicities competing with each other. i think its a must to allow competition inwards while also obv having a unified body doing broader policy(like managing the military, infrastructure, geo-politics, money distribution in general etc)

All joking aside it should be English. It already kinda is, ngl. I was once able to buy a loaf of rye bread in a Flemish grocery store in central Bruxelles thanks only to English!
t. & I speak French.

latin

resurecting a dead language to use as a lingua franca is an absolutely moronic choice.
by pure numbers english is the only language capable of becoming a truly global language. there would be no reason to isolate europe from the rest of the world.
besided, even if the british empire was responsible for it taking root initially, but then american media and hollywood made it pervasive.
it is largely self perpetuating at this point. so much media and trade is done in english you would be doing yourself a disservice to not learn english, and thus there is more incentive to create media in english, and so more people learn english, ad infinitum.

It should be German or Russian. English is a fag language, to many beaners speak Spanish, French has that problem in Africa, and Latin has too much weird grammar. Or make Albanian the langua franca for the lols.

Chinese. At last we would understand the manuals to all the things we buy.

ENGED

العربية

ad infinitum.

Futue te englice, linguam peiorem mundi Europa nolo. Disce linguam romanorum, optima lingua historiae et fini barbariem tuam.

fun fact, english is a compulsory subject in chinese higher education, and with 60% enrolement there are likely more chinese esl than native english speakers. in 5-10 years china could very well adopt english as an official language if their pride would allow it.

Why would you want foreign retards to learn your language

Arabic

Based and Englishpilled
Continentoids SEETHING

English is fine, a rootless, thoroughly mutted mix of celtic, germanic and roman languages which even retards have no trouble learning

Think of it this way: had Latin been the lingua franca all this time, we'd have Latin ebonics by now.

which even retards

Another reason to change that

My gf is learning it, but she speaks spanish, french, russian and english, so at this point she just won the game i guess.

Even though Im going to try to learn german, it is not that easier than latin, it also has declensions etc

Fuck English.
The obvious choice is American.

IMG_1016.jpg - 500x701, 82.5K

English mogs
Nonce.

Will or should?

will

The way things are going?
-English, Arabic or Russian

should?

Honestly, English (what will come to be know, if Asimov is to be believed, as "Galactic Standard"). All NW Europe already masters it, as well as large parts of Eastern Europe, and ofc, you my Spaniard fren. Not to mention large and important trading partners like China and Asia generally. It is inevitable. Just like Latin became the lingua franca long after the Roman Empire was no more...makes sense, right?

but if we include the potential of the spanish speakers throughout the world

Keep your bastard mutt relatives out of this.

Gabbagool

any language without grammatical cases and inflection is shit tier, and good luck teaching anglos a human language

how stupid it is to have English as the official language when there is 0 English speaking country in the EU

French is practically almost English.

nd ofc, you my Spaniard fren

Yeah, I do, and I hate it as much as I hate bongland. When I speak it I feel like a damned barbarian who can not use more than 2 conjugations, and no subjunctive mode. I kid you not when I say this, the beauty you can create with other languages can not be reached by english.

we'd have Latin ebonics by now

I dont think so. I can not see a world in which africanamericans could be able to learn latin, they almost cant speak english, imagine using declsensions and cases

Nonce

As to prove my point you used an English slang word I have no idea what it means.

Fuck English it’s a fag language. American is the white man’s language.

IMG_1017.png - 490x734, 510.29K

Esperanto

english

You say English but you mean American. Not Australian, not Canadian, not British.
It’s goddamn American you’re describing.

They also, supposedly, have a huge and growing Christian population.

American

English Simplified

again english is shit because its way too popular, same for spanish and so on

in terms of structure its the perfect language to speak but its way too popular globally

its way too popular

that... that's the whole point of a global lingua franca...

practically German is the only serious option as political language(Latin was the cultural/intellectual lingua franca, French was the political one), you don't want languages with a colonial bag of migratory shit attached to them, so French and Spanish and Portuguese are out, as with English of course, but also not languages that are too politically irrelevant

globally, i dont want most of the world to speak a euro language, kinda like the chinese with mandarin. especially reducing soft power, propagand, other non euro propaganda will be less effective

exactl, latin is cool as well, mostly because of european historical reasons(our history basically being written down in latin)

Is Liverpoolian English too? Nobody understands wtf they’re saying.

When you talk about English as lingua a Franca you talk about standard American accent.
It’s time we move on from the colonial past and recognize the facts.
The world speaks American, not English.

other non-euro, anti-euro propganda, especially related to former english, french, spanish colonies, reducing their cultural impact through a language change is necessary

I dont know in other countries, but here in Spain, we learn english with the brittish accents, so no, maybe american english is not the main accent used.

you don't want languages with a colonial bag of migratory shit attached to them

Basically latin

I don’t know how many countries you visited but in asia, Middle East and North Africa they speak American. Also I watched some interviews with euro politicians* they all speak American.

*Check out Meloni, polish politicians, Hungarian politicians.

Imagine a group of international Anons discussing which language should be the universal lingua franca in English, Ironic.

coomer.png - 357x370, 159.32K

I may agree with you as concerns beauty and inexpressible nuance, BUT I was trying to answer your question objectively (all things considered) and realistically. I think it would further waste time and set Europe back if they went on yet another moral crusade to try to impose some idealistic "lingua franca" on Europe. I used to know some hopelessly idealistic people who promoted Latin (so-called Latinists) as the only correct lingua franca for Europe, but for all their sincerity and beauty of soul, their proposal (as a serious proposal) was, well..., idiotic. (mind you, I studied & can read Latin fairly well, etc.). Seriously, though, English is the only solution...everyone already speaks it and everyone (regardless of where they are from) has fun with it; like now for instance. It's not a humiliation or badge of defeat; it's fun & understandable! Imagine, if you will, if Anon Babble was all in German ("Krankenhaus!!") or in French (Le, Le, Le for everything!)! God Forbid! :D
Admit it, fren; join me; this is the only correct answer at this point. Plus, English is pretty versatile, admit it, what with the ability (like German to make nouns into verbs and vers into nouns, and have compound nouns etc... Memes would not be the same in any other language I know. None of this takes away from our love of our native languages, their beauty or uniqueness, or their importance as we transmit them to our children. But, lingua francas; No!
t. & I speak English, French, some Spanish, and very familiar with Latin.

you hate english because it's simple? you're a moron. it isn't simple. it has all sorts of weird complications and inconsistencies. and at least you can say a lot more nuanced things than you can in spanish. this sort of thing happens all the time to someone learning spanish:

how do you say to steal?

robar

oh, so then what's to rob?

also robar

i don't know enough about all the other possible languages to know which one is the most accurate, least ambiguity, etc.
it seems likely that creating a new language would be best. and not some retard effort by a single guy who's not even that smart, like esperanto.

Nobody understands wtf they’re saying.

some parts of america suffer the same, hombre.

yes, exactly, leaving english behind means also losings its perks and its unique beauty; memes, social media and basic internet communication would never be the same but thats what i was trying to say as well. leaving english behind will also cut off all baggage related to it

Yes. Fuck, yeah! I DO, indeed, mean goddam AMERICAN! Not to offend anyone, but I can better understand Papua New Guineans, Nigerians, Ugandans, Japanese, Indians, Nepalese, Chinese, Haitians, etc., etc., than I can some so-called "English-speakers" from the British Isles! If you've listened to enough podcasts, you know it's true!

and like, again, we are talking about a european language. its not like it will replace english as the global language, people would still communicate the same. europe however would operate differently

Correct.
They speak American with a southern accent.
You speak American with an English accent.
Australians speak American with a Aussie accent.
Etc etc
American is what people around the world speak, teach and learn. Not Liverpoolian, not Australian, not Ebonican and not Englishian.

It’s time to change the perspective and get it right.

sort of thing happens all the time to someone learning spanish:

>how do you say to steal?

>robar

>oh, so then what's to rob?

>also robar

The fact that you only know one word in spanish to say "to steal" does not mean that spanish does not have more eords for it
E.g:
hurtar
quitar
sustraer
sisar
desvalijar
saquear
timar
usurpar
trincar
mangar
limpiar

In comparison to most languages english is just very simple, thats the truth, the same as I have to admit that it is the lingua franca of the world

I know anon, im not delusional, I know that right now it is not possible to change, but the same that happened to latin and french in the past may happen to english in the future, nothing last forever. So if in the future there was a possibility to change this, I would pick latin again for sure.

Mihi valde placet videre aliquem qui latine scit. Vero est anonyme liguam latinam prope neminem loquitur, sed in meo core, ignis Romae habitat, ergo discere de ea me gaudet magis quam discere de alteris linguis

Latin would fit that criterion, yes, but being based on a highly literary and intellectual fossilized form, as political language you'd probably rather quickly end up with a hebrew type situation where, as far as I know, the spoken language turned fairly quickly into a mangled garble with yiddish. Whereas with a living popular language it's easier to get people to stick to an already existing lower/popular standard, if anything because of the sheer amount of content. Like, imagine if to learn english the standard you had to imitate was Shakespeare and similar works with little to no input at a more elementary level.
Basically I wouldn't want Latin missa ante porcos

Given that it is not probable to revive them

Wait. Is Greek a dead language?

Exactly.
Does Paddy Pimblet speak English ? I guess so, because it's definitely not American, I don't understand half of what he says.
But I understand Georgia Meloni perfectly well because she speaks American.

Ancient greek is. I would use koine greek over the modern one, just to use a more "impartial" language. I love greece, and would love to learn ancient greek, as Im learning latin, but we must admit that ancient greek would be way harder to impose than latin.

I have a lot of books in latin a greek, check out.

Ok, I see your point, but it is still very sad to see how the historical language of Europe simply died and was replaced by english

I prefer a corrupted latin for the average joe, that a dead latin. The elites could speak proper latin, like in ancient Rome I guess

Modern Greek uses thousands of words, idioms, and expressions that are taken directly from ancient Greek.

nation states should be dissolved mostly because it destroys our regional cultures inside a nation state for the sake of one unified identity

True, it makes the world feel a lot smaller

I mean, of course, im not saying modern greek does not descend from ancient greek

Homer and Thucydides are way too hardcore. You want to torture people, or give them a useful language to communicate with?

Can you understand the greek plato and aristotle wrote? I'm unironically curious

Latin ebonics

Isn't that just the romance languages?

Utique, amici! I like Latin, too! But, there is no doubt that even in the time of the Roman Empire, Latin's excessive complexity led to a degradation of language. I honestly think that English as a work/functional language is pretty darn good. If we took up Latin again --- as a lingua franca -- it would fray and diverge just like it did in the past. So, I would propose English for now, and let the future take care if itself. AND, ideally, instead of modern education wasting our children's time brow-beating them into globohomo, they could teach them many different languages instead. Sorry, fren-anon, you got me going because I really like languages and think that every language is a different way of thinking; and there is nothing better that to be able to read a work in the original!
Every language is very precious and an intimate part of identity, but while we keep that, let's build with the bricks we have and admit that English is not too shabby in that regard! And, down the line, who knows what English, itself, will become! I am not a "native" speaker, either, but have come very much to appreciate its versatility and usefulness; and, not least, its incredible ability to adapt and grow!....like I said before, "Galactic Standard!" It's pretty darn good and. in no way, a humiliation or surrender/defeat of any sort. Did I mention that, today, it is the English who are, in fact, the least understandable "English" speakers? Haha. :)

PS-- How would you even say "Foghorn Leghorn" in any other language? Hmmn?

Godspeed fren! (How do you say that sincerely in any other language?) Admit, we are the joyously wiling products of our time; and so much the better!

Kek I know i know ἑταῖρος, thats why I would use koine greek jaja

What should be the lingua franca of the western world/europeans?

Chinese (Mandarin)

Foghorn Leghorn

Gallo Claudio in spanish

I am not a "native" speaker

Which is your native language?

I agree with you, every language is a treassure, thats why I feel so sad about how globalization is destroying them. For example I would love to learn irish, bust sadly, it will die in the coming years

I guess that you had to leave, but just in case

english

American. Stop giving credit to those sea monkeys.

What should be the lingua franca of the western world/europeans?

English may serve a role as lingua franca in Ethnic-European-Nationalism, but it must never supplant European languages, the living vessels of our cultural identity, sovereignty, and historical legacy. As Ethnic-Europeans, we must prioritise the preservation and promotion of our native tongues as a bulwark against cultural erosion, while selectively using English as a tool for practical engagement when necessary. Our unity is forged through the languages that define us, not through submission to foreign linguistic hegemony.

okay buddy!.jpg - 1648x2108, 329.1K

English

Wrong. American will do the job.

Its english you fucking protobeaner

English is American
Like many things in the language the name of the language itself is a misnomer. English was invented in and popularized by America.

English (US version), because Mutt accent sounds better and more neutral than Britistani one.

Shut up you mutt futurenigger, im blonde with blue eyes, and so is my gf. Can you say the same?

Latin

Based chud

Yes. But don’t be shy and don’t hesitate to say it boldly and proudly - American.

IMG_1023.jpg - 1080x561, 105.54K

When you think about speaking English, what English voice are you hearing in your head? It would be strange to think in a English-American voice in your head?

spain

blond hair blue eyed.

Quit lying prespic.

Gallo Claudio in Spanish

Oh! That's really "catchy," but it makes no sense; pure arbitrariness. It's actually: "cuerno de niebla cuerno de pierna" ... is this the hill you really want to die on? :D ?

Joking aside, my native tongue is French. I love the beauty and lyricism of French; but can admit that English (sorry, American!) is a much richer language in precise words, versatility and malleability. I refuse to let my congenital chauvinism get in the way of such a natural observation and truth! That said, I think I can even enhance my mode of expression in AMERICAN, with background in French??? (Hence, why my sentences are so darned convoluted and exquisitely nuanced! :D ) (hon.hon....) Maybe, it may be the same for you, Amigo-anon?

ADMIT IT, Dang it! English (sorry, AMERICAN) it is!

I’d live with Portuguese. Compromise

English with spanish accent

Sorry! My bad. You are right; AMERICAN!
Indeed, America did more for the universal spread of "American" that the English ever did for their language.

Maybe, it may be the same for you, Amigo-anon?

I dont know, in spanish I enjoy to use a more cultured way of speaking, but in english, it is quite hard sometimes, just because there are a lot of false friends so I must be careful jaja. But if I try yeah, I enjoy to speak in a more complex way. In my opinion Tolkien was the last english spekaer who properly spoke that language jaja

Are you one of those who speak french in Lousiana or something?

Giga chud

IMG_9492.jpg - 1024x1024, 118.29K

You have to be over 18 to post here.

Behold!!! The ineffable, universal beauty, versatility, and perfection of "Galactic Standard!!!" (i.e., "American")

PS - Imagine if Anon Babble was a German, Basque, or Hungarian board! Or a Danish, Icelandic or Inuit board? I don't know about you, BUT I certainly wouldn't be "here forever!" Amirite, frens?

Kek. Someone is butt hurt. Give it up Nigel, your time has pasted, the world speaks American and so should you.

IMG_6798.gif - 498x333, 2.38M

i'm going to speak english with an american accent instead of american with an english accent just to spite you.

the cope is to spite

Fine with me.

Are you one of those who speak french in Lousiana or something?

Nope. "I am the real deal!" (try to say that in French; jaja (~Je suis le vrai "deal"?)). I love my mother-tongue and sometimes -- perhaps like you -- my deepest most heartfelt or spontaneous feelings, I could not express in any other language! That said, in any other circumstance, AMERICAN is my "go to," and, all-truth-be-told, it's aways pretty close (though perhaps not perfect) to what I want to express! BUT, "the good thing is" that fren, like you, will always understand me perfectly! AND, THAT, my fren, is why I personally have so much resect for Engl...ack...I mean...American!
We all know it's true, let's admit it -- we can all be Frens because of America -- and then use that to be who all we really are! One big loving bigoted human family! ... With irrational love-hate relationships -- like cats -- which all somehow work-out in the end! Forget mouse-utopia; think cat-utopia! Dare I say, for Anon Babble. this is the only option! COMPRENDE?? amigo??, or do I have to say it louder? Jajaja! ;D

Godspeed. No hard feelings, I hope.

Engl...ack...I mean...American!

Kek.
