How about this, all this talk about we're in a simulation is a fake-out. All of our instruments for testing the basis of reality are confined to a relatively small area, around the orbit of earth and marginally the moon.
It is my belief that potentially, we are stuck in a projected hologram that is "boxing us out" of seeing the rest of the universe. This of course is because we are potentially the products of the species that is blocking our ability to see the rest of the actual universe instead of a shitty hologram they are projecting, hence we can see disturbances and anomalies we deem similar to graphics rendering.
The dark truth of this is we could potentially be some advanced biological mechanoids or proprietary genetic material of a group that wants to keep us in the vast darkness of a "dead" universe, while just beyond the veil of their control matrix there are civilizations and objects that we are technically not allowed to explore as not fully developed civilization but what amounts to a really sophisticated ant colony to the other beings in the universe.
