Speaking of Youtube, I suspect that views and subscriptions are mostly fake and probably worthless. Youtube just decides what it wants on its platform, and if it likes it, it will "reward" you with likes and subscriptions, in order to conditions people into making "good videos".

I see channels with hundreds of thousands of subs, and yet when the channel streams live it only has about 200 people. I don't know if that indicates that subs are fake, but it does make them seem worthless.

Some videos get millions of likes. Yet the person who made the video is still a brokie. Imagine grabbing the attention of millions of people, yet not even making ten cents off each person.

Another example of scamming for views: Use a picture that will be reverse image searched. Either make that picture the whole video, or at least be sure to make it the thumbnail. I ended up at the top of the search for an image, and had a steady trickle of a few people looking at my page because of that image. However, that changed when after a while I was no longer included in the search results for that image. Go figure.

Google favors itself (youtube) so if you use somebody elses image for your video thumbnail, google will assume that (you) are the source of that image.

And if there's no honor left in the world, here's a final idea: Anyone who has a subscriber count should just accept payment to put somebody elses video on their channel for a brief period of time, in order to advertise the other channel. Why the hell not? Because it might not be your "brand"? Fuck your "brand". Make what you have work for YOU. But I'm sure Youtube would have some sort of problem with this.
