The vast majority of their population died off from disease in the century or so between first contact with the Spaniards and when the English founding colonies that would survive. The English often found empty villages and cleared fields and roads, but no one using them because the population had died off so much.
The Trail of Tears and all of that was kinda shitty, but at least we gave them reservations to live on and try to maintain what was left of their culture. In almost every other time in history when a group of people ended up in a similar situation, they would usually just get enslaved or genocided by the group of people who conquered them.
