Funny thing is that maple trees in Canada are under attack and likely won't survive long term. Why? Earthworms. They're not native to Canada and are disrupting the soil conditions needed for maples to grow and thrive. These aren't US earthworms, they are from Europe and Asia that came in with various agricultural imports. There's no effective way to stop earthworms from spreading in the areas where maples grow. They're also making trillium plants, the symbol of Ontario, difficult to grow, so those might go extinct.
