There is a runaway network effect which makes it actually feasible to function and find someone for a while. However, there is pressure to actually be profitable. This pressure increases even more when people actually find themselves something long term, because your app is actually killing its own demand when it succeeds. Which inevitably means that they resort to shady tactics. Shady tactics means the userbase starts to decline. Once that gets going, the same network effect that was working its favour is now working against it. And it enters a death spiral. With the usual move for some other player in the market to just buy them up (to buy the users and try to milk them for every last shekel before the platform withers and dies a slow death over the coming years).
