Having moved to the US from Canada, I have met some people here who are pretty knowledgeable but most Americans know less than I do. Granted I have done gun plumbing professionally before. I will say because the barrier to firearms ownership in Canada is higher, people there tend to be bit more focused in their interest. But people in the US who have that degree of interest are usually able to become better versed in platforms that are unavailable in Canada. I never got to shoot an AK until I moved to the US. As a result of moving here I have more handguns than rifles, where as in Canada I have more rifles than handguns.
