No one alive was a legal slave or slave owner in America today. I'd be willing to bet the number of people alive who even talked to someone who was a slave or slave owner in America is under 4 digits. We are way past the point that someone should get paid for it and even if you did pick a number out of your hat and paid them some portion of the next generation would be broke and demand a new set of reparations.

of course blacks don't actually have assets for white people to take from them and the size of the debt incurred at this point is something like a trillion dollars. so the only way we'd actually be able to collect the payment would be to have them work in a separate, higher tax bracket for about a hundred years or so while also being disqualified to receive any sort of social services.

I think we should take reparations further and assign each person a value based on their contribution to society and then we can work on balancing all the values out. Only then will it be fair.
The idea is that white people, even if your ancestors weren't involved in slavery at all, have benefited from the inequality caused by slavery. That's why calling for reparations will never end because the perceived benefit to white people is constant. It's the same as jews that weren't alive during the holocaust saying it impacted them.
