Is it, though? Many people think they’re just a Judean slave population taken to Europe by the Romans.
They don’t have much Turkic dna as far as I’m aware, and there isn’t historical evidence of mass conversions. Also more of them have blue eyes than would be typical of Turks.

Modern jews such as the Ashkenazi and Sephardic have little to no Semitic blood and are in fact Turkish and Persian converts. The very name Ashkenazi is derived from the Turkish tribe Ashina who are Gok-Turks. During the sixth century, these nomadic people were forced by the Chinese Tang Empire – who were in power in China at the time – to migrate westwards toward the Black Sea.
Thanks to their organisational and military skills, the Ashina united many tribes in this area – and a new empire called the “Khazar Khaganate” was born.

The Asian group of these DNA mutations, found in Ashkenazic Jews, likely originated from the Ashina elite and other Khazar clans, who converted from Shamanism to Judaism.
