They did this already in the mid 00s. What happened was a bunch of central and south american gang member illegals enlisted so they could get military training, steal weapons, and gain citizenship. Then they took everything they stole and learned, brought it back home, and then used it to ethnically cleanse entire neighborhoods. So we were instructed to start using "you aint no hero" as an insult for soldiers that fucked up, so that other soldiers would associate trying to solo shit with being a self important loser that dies on the battlefield.
Be All That You Can Be was a much better ad campaign and actually explained what the military is. If you are a loser coming in then you will always be a loser. BUT if you come in a troubled winner and try to be all that you can be you will succeed. That was the ad campaign I enlisted under and it was TRVK and basedpilled.

The Marines advertising campaigns have been pretty much consistent for decades despite changing their verbiage and imagery a bunch. That is why the Marines have little to know issue with recruitment; WYSIWYG with the Marines.

The ASVAB is not a measure of intelligence beyond "are you retarded or a functional human being." The ASVAB score is a percentage based on a national bell curve using all the 17 year old high school males that are graduating that business year. A 99 on the ASVAB just means you scored higher than 99% of the people that have taken the test since the business year started. Because it required for 17 year old men attending public school, the test is biased and weird. Your line scores are what actually matters and decides your starting career.

It isn't a matter of need because they were so desperate they went way out of their way to recruit and train globally but nothing came of it compared to ex-military recruitment. I'm not too sure what your question is. As I was getting out, I used the skill bridge program and did an internship at Electric Boat. It's really close to the subbase in groton so I didn't have any issues with relocation or anything like that. I just got asked what I wanted to do and I said software sounds cool, so they rotated me around and I got passed around for some IRAD work. Towards the end of end of my internship they made an internal job opening for me, I asked for 120k and that's what they gave me in the job offer letter and well, off to the races. That was right at the start of covid.
I don't have retirement pay or any disability, maybe that's something they use to bust your balls?

That must vary by state because Alabama didn't require us to take the ASVAB but many student freely chose to do so.
Funny story is that my high school sweetheart went to college, got a useless degree, and then joined the Army because she couldn't make it on her own after college. She's the typical "smart but lazy" personality. The Army was good for her as she got technical training that she used to get a defense contractor job when she got out.
When the Space Force was created, she went back in. Now it looks like Space Command is going to move to Huntsville where we are from. She HATES Huntsville so it's going to be funny if she ends up back there.

Even without a skill bridge, just go on clearance jobs and look at TS/SCI positions, pretty much no one in the country can meet those requirements unless they were prior military.
I guess I wouldn't' know much about meritocracy for the navy as a whole. While advancement is based on exam scores and EVALS in the Navy, submarines have such a terrible manning problem that just showing the fuck up guarantees that you'll make it even if you're the shitbaggiest fucker in the world. If you can stand months at a time of sleep deprivation and read manuals and books during all of your ofttimes, you can qualify high enough to get constant EPs and advance fast. Not unusual for a hard working guy to make E7 by year 7 or 8. Then you're just time locked for a chief tour and a COB tour for E9. anyways guess I'm just ranting now.
