France were very reluctant to join us on the declaration of war on Germany, even though they had a treaty with Poland to intervene also.
Given the horrors of the Western Front of WW1, this was understandable. They also put a lot of stock into the Maginot Line, though the Germans bypassed this.
As Germany took Poland out before UK/FR could mobilise enough troops for an attack, defending Poland was impossible without having troops already there.
It seemed the Phony War period was a chance to end the fucking thing before it got much worse (as Hitler also wanted to, with his numerous peace offers), but sadly Churchill became PM and ensured that WW2 would destroy the Empire, be a disaster for the West, and be a victory for communism and jewry.
