Malmö doesn't have neighborhoods that have decreased by more than 50% in population like Englewood, Chicago, Camden, East St Louis etc etc. I don't follow the news or mainstream media, I mostly get my info from Anon Babble. I have heard about a depopulation problem in Northern Sweden, and in my previous thread someone posted a video where Grängesberg was mentioned. I don't even know much about it to be honest, but I never hear about any urban prairies and similar things in Sweden. In America you have entire neighborhoods where half of the buildings have been torn down.

Almost everything about American culture and government was set up specifically to prevent cities, and to encourage agricultural, countryside life. American cities are rather unnatural, act entirely differently than the areas surrounding them, and are often the exact opposite of what the rest of the country does, thinks, and lives like. Suburbs became a big thing because of this, Americans don’t want to live in cities, that’s generally the whole reason people got on boats through all of history and risked dying in the wilderness to come here: cities are awful. American cities are also entirely reliant on a very small handful of economic factors to really blow up, Detroit being a perfect example as it wasn’t a trade center but a manufacturing one, and once that manufacturing collapsed it took the city with it. Without well paying jobs a city in America has nothing else to really exist on. We don’t have millennia of history or culture built into them, there’s not ways to live there without government benefits if there aren’t real jobs, and especially modern cities are infrastructure and logistical nightmares. There is certainly urban decay in Europe, Birmingham is often an example I hear, and you will certainly see more as Europe continues to Americanize itself, but it is a problem almost unique to America because of the whole purpose of our country being opposed to the over-centralized nature of cities in the first place. This is entirely leaving out the racial aspects of immigration and white flight.

I live close to one, been there a few times, didn't see any abandoned buildings or empty lots. You would have to go to the depopulating areas of Sweden maybe there would be something like Rust Belt dilapidation, from my googling, although it's something I never hear about, I have heard about depopulation in Northern Sweden but I don't follow the news. Apparently Bergslagen is our Rust Belt, mines that shut down etc. Still never heard about any slums.
