Human are immortal beings with free will. Free will necessarily must include negative consequences for wrong choices. So God's purpose for all of this is to convince us, by our own agreement, of the right choice which is to completely adhere to the Perfect and Omnipotent God. For us to make this willing choice, we have to understand the negative consequences. That is what life is all about. Otherwise if we had no understanding, then we would be axiomatically destined to repeat Adam and Eve's mistake again at some point in our eternal existence. God wills that we come to understanding and choose communion with Him for perpetual eternity of our own free volition. And He forces this holiness on no one.

He is not doing all the work, we are called to "work out our salvation with fear and trembling" and struggle to deeper repentance, in order to purify ourselves of the passions and become Holy, living the perfect life of Christ, and actually unified in the Body of Christ (the Church). That's the reason for the Eucharist, too. It is union with the Source of Life Himself, and every good thing.
