If I've learned anything from watching forensics/true crime shows you could get away with it for at least a little while with basic investigation knowledge and a little luck. Most criminals are caught due to sloppy mistakes on their end rather than great detective work. If you only target random strangers, you leave your phone at home when killing, you always wear gloves and you never return to the scene of the crime that puts you in the top 5% of murderer IQ.

Leave your car, phone and watch home, kill random strangers at random locations away from your residential area, burn all your clothes you wore afterwards, use different weapon each time.

1) They are easy targets
2) Nobody will miss them, bodies may not be found at all or at least very soon (assuming you don't leave it lying in the open)
3) If someone does find the body the investigation probably won't be as meticulous.
