I have been to many cities all over the world, and in a general sense, yes. Pretty much all of them have parts that are nice, clean, safe, beautiful, all the nice stores and restaurants and amenities you would ever want and mostly White people but those areas are also usually very expensive so most of the people who live or visit them are either fairly rich or tourists on vacation.
And pretty much every city also has areas that are dirty, dangerous, crime filled, run down, niggrified ghettos that are slightly less expensive than the nice parts.

But for kids, living in Hawaii is a literal dream. The amount of outdoor activities is great, they have endless things to do. I would have loved to grown up there, the summers would have been the most kick ass thing ever. Big Island is the best best imo. Gets fewer tourists than Maui and Oahu, and is very laid back. There's no end to your choice of outdoor activities every weekend.
Oahu has the most amenities because of Honolulu and all the military bases, but the traffic can be just as bad as any major city on the mainland.
