There's no incentive for these companies to bring anything back when they can just wait 4 years and hope a new administration undoes it.
Even if manufacturing came back, it would mostly be filled with Mexicans.

If Trump wanted to build factories he'd have to do that shit manually by nationalizing assets or directly subsidizing US wages to be less expensive. It would require New Deal level federal capital raising and expenditure to do it and get results before the economy tanks and he gets punished in the elections. I think its theoretically possible, but it would require Stalin level economic intervention policies to decouple the US from global trade and valuation markets.

Honestly, if we weren't in the middle of alienating Mexico (and, for that matter, Canada), I could see a lot of that production relocating down there. At least in part. Not all manufacturing is assembly. There are real skills required. Recognizing faults, being able to tell what went wrong, knowing how to fix it, being familiar with the process, a lot goes into it. Maybe you're electroplating, maybe you're powder coating, maybe you're doing something else. You have a skill. You can't take some dumb motherfucker and just dump him in and not teach him. Believe me, they've tried. It always takes some Boomer who knows what they're doing from decades of experience to sort them out or decide to get rid of them.
