The camps were used for labor for the war effort since Germany found it hard to compete against the 3 global superpowers basically alone. Which is why even in holohoax believers, they claim the killings started 1941-42. Anyway, said camps were ground zero for infestation of lice and typhus disease. Clothes needed to be washed and deloused regularly in order to prevent lice dissemination. We have letters from Himmler in which he asks the camp commandants to do everything in their power to lower the death rate of the camps by washing the prisoners regularly, giving them food, changing their blankets, etc. The reason why lice is such a problem is because in an environment in which people are cramped up by the thousands, it can spread rapidly and engulf the whole camp. Which is why you can see on the photos that all prisoners whether they be at Auschwitz, Dachau or Majdanek - they were all shaved. Another vital thing done to prevent lice.

Typhus spread rapidly after the Allies bombed the supply lines and the Germans could no longer provide adequate support for the camps. The camps themselves, virtually all of them, were just concentration camps for forced labor and nothing more.

If extermination was the goal, and you can get your Jews to load up on trains, there is absolutely no reason for those trains to lead to massive expensive conplexes that drain resources and manpower to build and maintain, especially not to house them.
