I worked there briefly (just doing modified car exports back to Aus, so super chill work, mostly just going to car auctions), but talking to guys like you said it really is a very brutal work culture. 12 hour days, hour commute either way, practically forced to go and socialize with drinks after work (but rarely with women, in fact they typically have to PAY to socialize with women). So it wasn't unusual for a guy to basically be running on 4-5 hours sleep a night and every other waking hour being work related. Very little upward mobility at work, if any, shit pay. So a bit of escapism in the form of anime, games, lonely, horny as fuck, of course they're going to get rapey and shit and not have families.

Yeah, but their GDP shows that it works. I know people say Japanese people are not productive, but that's a surface-level analysis. Once you control for the working-age population, they're ridiculously productive even with extra hours.

No they're all in service and financial work, around 80% of their workers are 'salarymen' what a salaryman does no one knows but it seems like they waste time calling meetings, sales, and sending emails manually. If it wasn't for the fact their government bent over and lets the BOJ hold over half the bonds it would be Zimbabwe levels of currency devaluation.
