They mean different things to people. Mainstream liberalism can be considered a "religion" in and of itself. LGBT and atheism can be considered religions. We can't agree on language because it means different things to everyone, so they need to explicitly define every single policy and social position and attribute it to an ideological category, and even then, 20 years from now, it'll all be reclassified and reorganized by mainstream culture.
