But Egypt, the Levant and Fertile Crescent were prime real estate, the most fertile lands in the wider region by a huge margin. It was the trade nexus between the East and West and specially the city of Antioch was waaaaay too valuable as an economic asset to be destroyed. Jerusalem was never touched due to its spiritual value, even to the Sassanids.
