There are multiple positions in a tower and radar. You aren't always busy. Sometimes you don't talk to someone on the radio or do anything for hours. I'm also ATC. It's a good profession if you like to shitpost on Anon Babble, because you're busy in bursts, and then have a lot of downtime but you still have to monitor things and pick up the radio if somebody needs something.

It kind of sucks, but somewhere like Jordan or Qatar has mixed used airbases for civilians and military, and they use contract companies for ATC.

The contract companies will hire american controllers, then get then ICAO certified once at the facility.

However, it won't do you much good to go work in europe. ATC in europe is extremely nepotistic and they very VERY rarely hire americans for anything. ICAO will let you work in places like Dubai or Africa or even SEA.

Look up international ATC contracting companies.

You can get ICAO certified in 6 months at Dubai. Its hard work, but the pay is good and they will cert you fast if you're willing to work any schedule. You can also get center certs there.

I don't know any other pipeline as fast as that for ICAO.
