The first American Military movie that I've watched (formally that is. I'm a Gen Z in the Philippines) is the American Sniper so my opinion of the American SEALs were quiet high compared to other Special Forces. I was quiet surprised when I saw them as Fed cocksuckers in some of the novels I've read.

Whereas in the Philippines the Constitution basically amounts to toilet paper in certain regions especially the ones in the Southern Mindanao, the same cannot be said of the Americans. From the most libtarded phaggot in San Francisco up to the Appalachian Mountains, the Constitution is held in high regard.

Most movies about US soldiers have at least some propaganda. There is a reason. The military does allow movies to use or borrow their surplus uniforms and even some equipment for costumes and props. It is much cheaper than to build replicas or CGI. Especially of working, tanks, planes, helicopters, jeeps, and humvees. Some of those things are not available on the civilian market or have noticeable differences. If they ask to use those things their script has to be reviewed and approved by some pencil pusher in the Department of Defense. And it has to be a mostly positive depiction of American soldiers. If you want to make a movie that depicts them too negatively. Even if it is the truth, your movie just got way more expensive or tacky looking.

Novels also tend to go over the top a bit. Depicting the worst behaviors crammed into the shortest periods of time. Most soldiers have to do those kinds of things over a period of years to rack up the number of unethical behaviors and not get demoted, dishonorably discharged, or investigated by congress. But sometimes the truth is stranger than fiction and it is worse than in most novels.

I'm not really a fan of Anti-Military movies. Most of the time it's just a leftist/liberal propaganda so I immediately skip that shit. Some Anti-Military novels were also leftist down to the fucking bone.

The only time I read novels that depict the military negatively is when it's written by a Liberatarian or a Right-Winger.

Full Metal Jacket is a good anti-military movie. Yeah the writer and director is are libshit, but they still made a good movie about the abuse of the US army and the lack of gratitude of much of the South Vietnamese population. Vietnam vets even say that it is practically right on the nose on how McNamara's morons were like.

Problem is Hollywood is full of liberals. So most of their movies are written by liberals with connections to the Jewish producers. Jews are 80% shitlib across the country and 99% shiltlib in California. A centrist or even a conservative writer is not going to get a big budget. And will have to tone it way down to rent equipment if they want to make their novel into a movie. Usually they will get a 2nd job writing for a TV show and write an episode subplot depicting the military with story elements from the novel. It is usually forgettable because there is little build up to a general going crazy authoritarian.

I've watched Full Metal Jacket and I admit it's good compared to other slop Vietnam movies.

I think the best one I've watched personally is "We Were Soldiers" by Mel Gibson. Maybe it's because Gibson didn't use the stereotypical "nihlist jackass soldiers in both sides" trope in his movie. In his movie, both the soldiers of the Vietnamese and the Americans wears a clean uniform, use actual tactics, and weren't mindless drones. Best of all, he portrayed both the Americans and the Vietnamese as honorable soldiers instead of turning it into "War Le bad" movie.

The only military force that matters is the militia. The militia is made by people that'll group up and fight over a similar goal. The military however will always fight for the goverment, and the goverment will always reach a point were it'll detach from the "lower classes".

ATF made up that part of the story, just like how they made up the part where Branch Davidians shot down one of their helicopters with an anti-materiel rifle. So no, no footage for either made-up "it was real in my mind" non-event.

My dad was a marine in Vietnam. I saw pictures of him and his buddies. They didn't not have clean uniforms at all in the jungle. And they spent much of their time on riverboats. Pluss they all did drugs and banged hookers in Saigon. He said that he only knew 2 guys who didn't do either. It kind of sucks that Full Metal Jacket has bad writing for the tactics. And the South Vietnamese didn't openly hate them as much until the fall of Saigon. You had to be a huge asshole if you were a US soldier to be kicked by a Vietnamese civilian. Which almost didn't happen until 1972. He only knows this from his friends who were there 2 years after he got out.

But he said that Full Metal Jacket was accurate on how most of the soldiers really were. We Were Soldiers has accuracy on the fighting. It has better dynamic characters that were missing in Full Metal Jacket. Too bad they were rarer than in real life. Most Vietnam veterans didn't sober out of their drunken drone phase for long until they got back into civilian life. This is what they mean about the "fog of war".
