Buy food with money, An exchange of your physical labor and time. You get to eat it, It's yours, if someone takes it from you its a crime

Buy video game online with money, An exchange of your physical labor and time, You paid money for it but don't legally own it and it can be revoked from you at any time

Explain to me how this is fair

Video games are for children

Purchase Item vs Rent A License to Use

These are not the same transactions. Learn the difference, it will help prevent your salty tears. You willingly entered into both transaction types

Dont like it? No problem. Go buy old games and systems where you get physical games or ownership licenses. Just dont expect updates for them or server resources. The transaction has been completed

If you can't own a product in the first place, then piracy is literally not a crime

officer that man stole my bike! Yes, i know my bike is right here with me, but he made a copy of it!

When I use the food, it's gone. It's turned into excrement and then flushed away. The steam game, on the other hand, is always accessible.

Therefore, buying games on Steam is a better investment than food.

If I don't like it I'll just steal it and if you retaliate kill you
The law won't protect you. You defend mods you're on your own

This isn't about value cost its about legality of what is ownership

i stopped buying videogames a while ago because of this.
i thought my steam account would be something i could give to my brothers kids when i die or something. but no.

so i stopped.
it lost its purpose.

20+ yo account

That a very naive and child like view of the world. Ultimately its a very dumb way to look at things. If he made a copy of the bike then he didnt steal it

If you spent years designing a super performing bike that you wanted to sell to others then by your own stupid arguments there is no problem if someone comes along and steals your design and makes millions selling know off copies of your bike

You cant see the wood for the trees. You have been dumbed down with a narrow spectrum thought process

noam.jpg - 640x335, 71K

Nothing I said had anything to do with mods you low IQ sub saharan african

If you spent years designing a super performing bike that you wanted to sell to others then by your own stupid arguments there is no problem if someone comes along and steals your design and makes millions selling know off copies of your bike

This is literally free capitalism. If someone makes a design quicker and more efficient than you, then you lost. The free market works this way.

They didnt make a design. They stole your design

I see you have basic reading comprehension issues as well as limited abstraction ability

If buying a game isn't ownership, than pirating it isn't theft.

You don't own your Steam games. You acquired a license to download and play them.

If they take that design and sell more before you do, then that's capitalism.

Are all soap brands illegal now because they do the same thing and have the same fragrance. What about dr pepper and dr thunder and dr topper. They all taste the same and have the same design of flavors and take away money from the "original" creator.

I dont own hunderds of CDs and DVDs ?

Anon Babble are for children

just pirate it if it gets taken away from you retard

No, thats the exact opposite of capitalism. Its intellectual property theft which is only tolerated under communism

My god you are a fucking imbecile

Whores should pay me for my semen and doing most of the work.

You own the physical CD but you dont own the music, you only have a right or license to listen to that music. You cant put on a concert and charge people for entry using music from your CD's. Not even your backwards country allows that

Well you see you agreed to the Terms of Service when you signed up so it's now moral to screw you over. GG, welcome to Anglo morality chud.

Capatlism is about free market and creating the best product. If your product fails, its because its your fault and the free market won out. If someone takes your design and sells more, then you lost the free market.

This is getting off topic though. If I buy a product, I own it legally. Renting non physical can never be legal ownership, therefore it can never be a crime to take/copy.

I can rent a man to come paint my house aka HIRE, but he physically still does the labor.

Piracy is morally and legally justified.

I wonder why stuff like abortion, death penalties/ youth in asia, age of consent and other dumb shit are debated to the death with more and more dissident and firey debators year to year
you'd think the populous would catch on that it is a trap

You are confusing capitalism with manufacturing

Capitalism includes the concept of intellectual property. A concept you are either choosing to pretend doesnt exist or you are such a fucking retard that you cant grasp the concept

Try again

makes millions

People make money pirating games?
Why didn't anyone tell me?

I do it for free.

Remember every time you pirate a game you cant own this anon seethes.

It's not, now go pirate games you waste of human space. Fucking dumb nigger.

Most people are easily led idiots sadly. They intentionally choose to cut down the available conceptual ideas they have to juggle because it makes life and decision making "easier". It also means less peer pressure

Of course it doesnt really make it easier, what they have done is hand over their decisions making process to their chosen authority power. It just feels easier because less thinking

Those are the terms you agreed to when you signed up the the platform duh so no one is being cheated but there should be more demand for physical media getting a whole box of goodies like maps and posters and shit with a video game was part of the fun. I’m sure there is still a market for it maybe you should get into the gaming business OP

i have a billion of those gay badges and shit, i should sell those for steam bucks

Juice

It’s mine if I masturbated to one of the characters… right? That’s how it works?

Millions? The pirated games market was worth about $50 BILLION last year

it's like paying for the movies, you do not own the film. except you get to play the game way more often than only once, if not as often as you want while alive.
you buy a license to use software. with limitations.
the license can come with the possibility to download the software for which you purchased the license or a complimentary copy of the software on a physical medium (which you would own indeed, despite not getting ownership of the software on it, in a way a copyright holder has ownership)

I mainly play emulators with downloaded, non purchased games, I dont agree with intellectual property rights as they are currently structured. However that doesnt mean that Im completely fucking delusional and Im going to pretend IP is not real like the other anon

Who made 50 billion?

I didn't.
I just play switch games for free that I never would have bought a switch and played the game otherwise.

Browsing internet forums and talking shit is for adults?

Intellectual property isn’t necessarily a capitalism thing it’s something courts made up a judge could declare tomorrow that the wheel is patented and everyone who uses a wheel has to pay a subscription to Blackeock or some shit that won’t happen of course but it will get very close to that as the courts get browner and dumber and more corrupt

You are clearly not smart enough to get a cut

Dont worry about your IP theft, nobody cares, its the equivalent of taping songs off the radio

A license to play or view something cannot be a legal product. If I cannot legally own it whether digitally or physically, then it is not a real product.

If I copy a game or burn a movie from a bluray disc and share it, it's a victimless crime.

See

Pirating has never been a criminal offense. They might sue you for it over damages or something.
And nobody has ever owned software, you don't own the games on your disks or your GoG library either.

if someone takes it from you its a crime

Laughs in Migrant

You stupid cuck.

you can buy most games for full price on gog and download and store files yourself, retard

Nonsense. Capitalism cant function without the enforcement of IP. Its been a fundamental part of western capitalism in every form and location

Tell me a form of western capitalism that didnt have IP conceptually? IP only vanishes under communism and thats because there are no rights to individual ownership anyway

Thing with digital distribution of video games never was about ownership because you never owned a game you owned a key, which you still do even on Steam.
If you ever bought a game, even Steam game, outside of Steam you would know.
The whole point of digital distribution was to cut down on logistic of physical product, nothing more nothing less than that, it was never intented nor it is today no matter the wording they try to concince you about it, a licence to use.
When you buy a game you own that game
What you dont own is the games future, and this is problem to you mofos who only play multiplayer games. Single player games are games you wont mix with you server dependent garbage mess you talk about.

Who sells pirated games?

Well if nobody has ever owned software, than I guess that's why pirating has never been a crime. Because people understand buying=owning.
It has always been this way, buying a product means you own it.

Why is everything else in life treated as an owned product like cars, food, gold and silver, homes, gaming PC's etc but when it comes to games/software whether physical on discs or digital they are suddenly unownable licenses?

The companies can say that its a license and even if you own it physically you still don't own it, but nobody actually obeys or believes that because morally nobody will accept it.

If I pay money for something, everyone expects that you own it because you traded your time of your limited life and your labor for it in the form of money.

If I commit a premeditated murder, nobody will suddenly say it was manslaughter or an accident. People rightfully recognize murder legally the same way they rightfully recognize ownership. It doesn't need explaining, It just is.

Ebay. Markets, Temu, AliExpress, Banggood, loads of places. There are discord servers full of games pirates that will sell you membership for access

Most of the market is systems with games preinstalled ($35 billion) but $15 billion is individual games and clones of steam selling access to pirated games

You paid money for it but don't legally own it and it can be revoked from you at any time

Depends on the country. Atm a precedent could easily be set against Steam themselves in Europe. It's already been done against Oracle in conditions far more favourable to Oracle so I don't see how Steam could win.

In Canada Steam would probably win unless some tearjerking opposing side could be found compliant with Canadian Current Thing and the whole cancon flavour of thing.

In the US it's hard to be certain. On one hand, right of first sale is pretty fundamental. On the other hand, screwing over individual Americans with legalese is also fairly important to the US. Plus they have the Warden precedent making a mess of software ip law which would support Steam's case.

East coast American capitalists, beyond the reach of Mother England, did some vibrant capitalisms unrestricted by the need for British licenses or the need to pay for them.
West coast American capitalists, beyond the reach of eastern States, did some vibrant capitalisms (especially Hollywood) unrestricted by the practical need for etc.

it’s something courts made up

I thought it was made up so that the King could control what was going on in his kingdom and reward his allies.

You buy the privilege to play. If you don't follow the rules, you lose the privilege. You even agree to the contract.

Who gives a shit games aren't speculative assets unless you're flipping old Nintendo (most especially Pokemon) games for profits. I just wanna play games and have fun.

I'm not reading that shit but yeah
1) Downloading games isn't a crime and has never been a crime
2) You don't own games and have never owned them.

Yeah you can make backups because it's drm free but if Gog goes down what's the difference between you and your backups and some guy who pirated them off of torrents? He has the same thing as what you have but you paid for it.
You still don't own drm-free games either.

You aren't actually buying the software, you are buying a license. Even with physical media, long before Steam existed, you were always just buying the license.
The only true difference is that the license is now non-transferable.

Maybe read the ToS before agreeing and if you don't agree, don't buy it.

Explain to me how this is fair

It's not and humans really don't care for property rights anymore, they wont fully let someone else have the property, trying to both sell it off and still "own" it so they can take it back...

Property rights are an illusion when corporations exist.

So for the entirety of human history people have understood that buying a product = owning it.

And games used to be physical if you bought it you owned it.

But nowadays if you buy a game you don't own it because of some legal mumbo jumbo license?

No that's not how it works, If I buy something I own it otherwise it's not a crime to pirate a licensed game because it has no value if its not owned.

Just like the same way you can sell your physical old graded nintendo games, I should be able to sell my digital games.

If buying isn't owning, than pirating isn't stealing.

These are not the same transactions.

Yeah one shouldn't even exist as an option. You pay for something -- it's yours. Market wants to OWN not BORROW.

West coast American capitalists, beyond the reach of eastern States, did some vibrant capitalisms (especially Hollywood) unrestricted by the practical need for etc.

My god, you are fucking retarded man. The whole concept of Hollywood relies on IP. The only way Hollywould can collect any revenues is through the concept of IP!

Licenses from the British != IP you fucking clown

You are trolling me right? Nobody is this fucking stupid, not even poos

have never owned them.

NOOOO LICENSES ARE INHERENTELY THE TRUMP CARD, IT NULLIFIES ALL SOCIAL AND LEGAL CONTRACTS

Actually you do, because people resell nintendo games physically right now.

If all software and games were never able to be owned, how come I can't go to a reseller convention and steal all the retro games? After all they are all licenses.

yes?

than

It's then.
You buy a license to play the game. Pirating it grants you possession, which is illegal because it is not being sold for you to possess.

One is a life necessity and the other is not

I guess since a car isn't necessary to living you don't need that.

back to plebbit faggot

The topic is about digital distribution, not nintendo cartridges.
Digital distribution didn't exist at the time. No one was pirating carts. Nintendo fought against rentals and couldn't do much about lending games to your friend. They weren't going to not sell games just because they couldn't control them. So no, a cartridge is not the same as a digital license to play.

You dont own the software in modern cars either. You just have a license to use the features. If you want the features to keep working after an initial period you have to pay a yearly or monthly subscription

You are really struggling with the conceptual difference between physical and intellectual property here arnt you? I suggest you go away and do 15 mins research and get it clear in your head before making any more posts that identify you as a blatant fucking imbecile

I don't think you're in touch with reality.

Pirating is free.
That's why people do it.

Buy physical, problem solved

You don't need a car to live.

Explain to me how this is fair

It isn't. Pivot to literature and make Anon Babble + crypto/stocks your main vidya. That is how you win + live a comfy life.

Enjoy the insane amounts of older games available and shift loose this normie anxiety for muh new product.

This will only get worse. They won't stop. You need to radically re-orient your inner world and approach to certain forms of consumerism while it's still relatively easy to do so.

But I own the car so?

Most people dont know how. You are just in a bubble and misinformed so you are projecting your own reality disconnect onto others

arstechnica.com/gaming/2024/10/the-true-cost-of-game-piracy-20-percent-of-revenue-according-to-a-new-study/

Start here. Do some googling. Check out AliExpress and places for "emulator" boxes with games. Check out PipeWork which is a pirate version of Steam and finally stop making stupid statements about things you know nothing about

No, you own part of the car. You just have a license to use the software, no ownership

How are video games for children? There are games out there that aren't rated E for everyone. Are you retarded?

Anon Stellar Blade is clearly a kids game, I mean only little boys like sexy women
Only men like Last of Us Part II

If they evict you and sell off everything you have and you spend 10 years in jail and you're homeless you can still get into any library and play the entirety of your Steam catalogue.
The only thing that's truly yours and nobody can take away from you.
Username and Password.

How are video games for children?

They're mostly an amalgam of lesser forms of other media & narrative device. The only "game" style that is truly its own novel form is arcade-based gaming.

Historically, anon. There were periods of time where that was the case.

So tell me when and where? Thats the question I asked you. You gave me 2 answers which were both complete bollox

So is reading a book. It's a pointless waste of time.

enlightened utilitarian hylic

Woah, look out.

Disagree. I play games in between uni and gym

Cat.gif - 600x1067, 2.05M

were both complete bollox

okay now that this is concluded you need to give me your best recipe for pancakes.

I accept your surrender. I dont eat pancakes but I make a mean cheese and bacon scone for breakfast

Only place where effort = reward

Is for children

Aren't you leaves self raking by now?

I was calling you a llm, obviously. Not paying the brits for industry generally and the reason the population that made up hollywood left the east coast are basic history.

Imagine being so stupid that you pay for pirated games.

steam didn't set this precedent you braindead retard. They just made a better market for it.
People like you need to be liquidated.

My HL2 license is 20 years old; I don't give a fuck.

You can call me what you like, makes no difference. The important part is that you are simply wrong and completely full of shit

If you were able to provide an example of capitalism without IP then you would do

Instead you bounce around in avoidance making a clown show of yourself and other poos

basic. history. where capitalists decided not to respect foreign ip to get ahead and it worked great.

p.s. how many 'r's are there in three strawberries?

Guess what, you don't own your money in the bank either. Legally, when you sign up for a bank account you agree that when you deposit money in the bank you give them ownership of it, and in return you get a right to withdraw that same amount. Its a very subtle trick, but legally its not your money anymore as soon as you deposit it into the bank.

You are squirming like an eel trying to change the target and desperately trying to not make a fool of yourself. Its not working

Im going to ask this very simple question again. Lets see if you can answer it this 4th and final time:

Tell me a time and place where western capitalism functioned without the concept of intellectual property?

You wont because you cant

waiting for ai to make me my own video games

To be honest, I own thousands of games on Steam and I can't even keep track of 20 physical console games I own. If I had all my Steam games as physical items, I would have legitimately lost or broken all of them in the last 10 years. So I understand your point, and I could always just pirate too, but I think I have gotten more out of my games over the years to have them on Steam.

Cause it's convenient you faggot why risk my expensive ass computer on some sketchy pirated software when I can just wait for the dozens of weekly sales to cycle on the game I want and buy it at no risk plus all the benefits of the steam network it's the same reason people buy Spotify yea I can pirate all my music but I'm not a broke nigger and I can pay the 12 dollars a month on Spotify to not deal with the bull shit of managing pirated music

I feel this, forsooth, I personally pirate everything else but pay for games because pirated games have ALWAYS fucked my PC or the game up.
The money I save not buying movies, anime, music, etc goes to the $100 a year I can spend on steam lmao kek.

because they tell you thats how it is and you agree to do it? What fucking nanny state shit are you advocating for.

b-but you d-don't o-own that HL2 License, they're TOTALLY going to take it away from you in another decade, get mad that you won't be able to play this 30 year old game in 2034!!!

Go back watching faggots chase a ball or hit a black disk on ice or something

without adults, there are no video games

Without children there is no market. Man children count, GenZ and Millennial are mostly adult children

It could also be rated R for retarded

Buy video game online with money, An exchange of your physical labor and time, You paid money for it but don't legally own it and it can be revoked from you at any time

It's the same for prostitutes, though people used to legally own them.

Didn't Gaben say they won't be questioning 200 year olds with accounts?

I totally agree with your sentiment but

it was never intented nor it is today no matter the wording they try to concince you about it, a licence to use.

On theory sure, but in practice the (((platform holders))) always had that in mind and you're lying to yourself if you think otherwise.
So far the best DRM as been always online bullshit and digital distribution is a powerful tool for enforcing that.

what's the difference between you and your backups and some guy who pirated them off of torrents?

you literally have a license to a copy at the gog that you can legally download
why is it so confusing to you retard
steam is exactly the same

for PC gaming, there is literally no excuse not to buy games
for movies and music
1) you can't choose the download format: most don't have lossless, and movies have shit quality and you can't upgrade to 4k easily if you want
2) your licenses go poof once the store inevitably closes at some point
those do NOT apply for PC games. There were already precedents where the game disappears from the steam for some reason, but those who bought it still can download it at any point. Steam is NOT going away, it's a DEFAULT for PC gaming. If you buy shit at origin or epic store or wherever the fuck else it's your fault, but steam is bulletproof
I pirate movies and most music but there are NO (general) excuses for pirating PC games
when steam copy has some bullshit attached to it like activation limit there MAY be a point, but 99.999% of games don't have this

corrupt worthless rats that need guys like Luigi to kill the enite familes oor the PATHETIC LOSERS

need to make an account

need to accept terms & agrement

need to have online connection

YOU DONT OWN SHIT THEY TRACK YOU THEY WATCH YOU THEY PLOT PLAN AND ACT AGAINST YOU AND ITS OKAY

imagine being stupid enough to have children into this kind of world ALL THE SCUM WANT is more power more control more inflluiecen over the children you fuck into this world

parents need to wake up and realize they are the problem for allowing these retarted losers new life to taint new life to corrupt new life to use for the systens and games that should be punishable by death just look at the state of things

get a load of this retard

get a load of this fucking retarded idiot shill that dosent see a problem what so ever its scum like you who think this world should have new people born in it pompous RETARD

Playing devil's advocate - a big difference between games now and games 30 years ago is post-release development and maintenance. 30 years ago when you bought a game that was basically it - you got what you paid for. Most games were single-player or local multiplayer, and only the biggest online multiplayers had dedicated servers. You'd get maybe one or two "updates" after release in the form of patches, but these would generally be purely bugfixes or balancing changes. Now every game is expected to steadily add new content and features over a period of several years and every game is expected to maintain dedicated servers for a decade or more.

An argument *could* be made that this extended work warrants additional considerations beyond a one-time purchase. It's not an argument I necessarily agree with, but it could be made.

I agree, digital blackjack is for children

Who cares? If buying isn't owning then piracy is not stealing.
