Yes, especially in the 3rd-world. Canada marketed itself (and we saw Canada as it presented itself) like the country of the future. Global warming was supposed to melt Greenland. Canada was a functional USA with a respectable national growth, far more national cohesion (we knew nothing then), and an idealized education and universal healthcare system that we thought were good.
Now there is nothing promissing about Canada. It has turned into the Argentina of North America. The excellent and varied economy has become a predatory offshoot of all that is the worst about the USA (expensive rent, unaffordable food...). The national healthcare system has revealed itself to be ineffective, thanks to all the canadians going to the USA for treatment. The education system revealed itself to be an indoctrination camp, and immigrant kids are regularly underperforming, which has reduced its appeal. The country is not even safe anymore, due to all the phentanyl consumption and immigrants clashing.
Canada, frankly, needs to be ruled according to the reality that Canada will always be compared to the US states. Unless canadians realize and decide to compete with America, Canada will lose.
