as far as i can tell, we're supposed to forgive others when they repent. if a person wronged you, and then later came and begged forgiveness saying how sorry they were, but you refused to soften your heart, let go of your resentment, and accept their apology, that's wrong. we're taught that if we repent for our sins, God forgives us, and we're supposed to follow His example. and it's difficult, right? because often times, just a "sorry" doesn't feel like enough penance for wrongdoing, and we might have lost a lot from the wrongdoing and want to be compensated more. but God doesn't ask us to do a ton of labor or whatever to atone for our sins, and so we're not supposed to ask that of each other, either. instead, when a person is truly remorseful, we're supposed to have a big heart and drop our grudge, and love that person again.

when people do not ever repent, they often fall into Hell. they love their sin too much to renounce it and to stop sinning. you're not obligated to forgive those types. they do not even want your forgiveness because they don't love you and aren't sorry for what they did.
