No, resorting to physical violence with a child is just taking your frustrations out on someone who can't physically fight back. Absofuckinglutely. Violence is the universal language of all living beings. When better to teach the kid what's right and what's wrong and beat the ever living fuck out of them, than when they're most impressionable and malleable? But this of course depends on the kid. Some kids don't need any beating. Some need it only once or twice before they learn for good, and some just won't learn no matter what you do. But understanding if it's necessary and applying it if it's for the good of the kid is what's most important, otherwise it's just abuse.
