Ukraine's primary value has been as a proving grounds for new weapons paradigms. We have rapidly iterated drone production and use. And the US and Russia have gotten to see how primary cold war tech stands against them.

Armored vehicles have almost no point anymore. We have nearly infinite plastic for drones. And they use less explosives than conventional weapons.

I think the war will end once a side successfully makes AI determine and strike weak spots. Then missiles or artillery that release small groups of AI drones will be able to deeply penetrate enemy lines and destroy valuable targets quickly in ways that cannot be jammed. The first side with functioning AI swarms will have proven the shift in paradigm and forged a decisive victory. It might be Russia and it might leave them in the lead globally for a while which is why the US and Nato needs to stay out of this. It's like one side having a nuke first. I assume you are referring to the USSR's conflicts as "russian invasion" (even tho most of them happened under a Georgian and an Ukrainian's rule), but here are the ones that happened in the last 100 years:
conflict with finnland and baltics happened similarly for security reasons to prepare the country for the inevitable Axis invasion. As much as westerners like to use Finnland as a gotcha to prove how the USSR was invasive just like the nazis, even most western historians agree that USSR was motivated by their claimed motivations, to secure a specific small region around Leningrad for defensive purposes, and didn't actually want to conquer Finnland. Baltics were too close and had too many fascist sympatizants that the germans could use for their divide and rule tactics.
Hungary and czechslovakia's revolutions were defeated because the USSR desperately tried to hold up the eastern bloc, again, for security reasons. The USSR suffered extreme casualties during WW2, it single handedly had to defeat around 80% of the european Axis troops, who weren't that far from beating the Soviets, and the consequences of that would have been extreme. If a western coalition (NATO this time) attacked again (which the UK wanted right after USSR defeated the Germans) then it needed a similar defensive alliance to deter them.
Afghanistan, similarly to modern Syria, were not invasions. USSR came to help on the request of the local government, which was not a puppet government (like south vietnam or korea in case of US). In both cases they were fighting US funded and trained terrorist insurgencies that tried to overthrow the country, and Afghanistan in particular was right next to USSR.

They call it Autonomous Air Vehicles (AAVs) and it's already in prototyped stages. This company is just one that's competing on current contracts.
Northrop Gruman's X-47B and RQ 180 are UAV's that have tested successful carrier landings. other companies have worked on missiles that attach to current air and UAV platforms that would carry smaller AAVs, and any remote flyable AAV could become an AAV with a different brain.
I don't know how much conversions are on the way but it's not a huge shift in a carrier group. To carry mostly long range UAV's that deploy deep strike missiles crammed with smaller AAVs.
Screw hypersonic weapons. Imagine a retrofitted Nimbitz carrier with a quarter of the crew and all of the interior gutted to house AAV missiles and 400+ UAV drones to launch them.
In theory, you wouldn't even need a ship that looks like a carrier, or a group around it. For all we know, the fast Littoral combat ships we heard so much about are just drone carriers. Pic related, the LCS has a flight deck and it's way bigger than you need for a helicopter. This is long enough to launch and land UAVs. Armor will mean nothing in the coming wears, just ability to deploy as many AAV's as deeply and quickly wherever you want. For all we know the US has been preparing for this for the last decade.
Most of our destroyers and frigates moved to missile platforms ages ago, a new missile carrying AAV's that fits them is the only change they even need and Anduril has several that look like they might fit the bill.

The regions USSR occupied were also Soviet population majority regtions that Poland itself conquered during the Russian civil war. After liberating Poland from the germans and ending their genocide USSR actually gave Poland more territories where actual polish people lived, than it lost (which were mainly other ethnicities lived), so the accusation that USSR was motivated by wanting to conquer territoires are not just bold accusations but utter manipulative lies.

The war in Ukraine is now a war of attrition. This is what people don't understand when keep talking about how slowly Russia is gaining ground. In a war of attrition, battle lines are relatively stable until eventually one side simply cannot keep fighting, at which point the front rapidly collapses, often in a matter of weeks or months, leading to an unconditional surrender. For a historical example of this, see WW1. Many battles where hundreds of thousands of men died for just a few miles of territory. But eventually Germany simply ran out of men and had to surrender, at which point they had to accept whatever terms the Allies offered.
In terms of this war, for the next year or so things will continue like they are now. Ukraine will keep lowering the draft age as they become increasingly desperate for soldiers (they have already lowered it several times). Currently conscripted soldiers are serving indefinitely - there is no fixed service period for them, they will fight until the war ends or until they die. Desertions among current Ukrainian soldiers have already increased, and will continue to increase as the soldiers realise the only way they're ever going home is in a body bag. Eventually Ukraine will simply run out of soldiers at which point Russia will rapidly advance, taking all of Ukraine in just a few weeks. Again, for a real world example of this, watch how the Afghan army collapsed once America withdrew.

I believe at this point he is solely motivated by malice towards Russia, even if it costs Ukraine more in the long term. He wants to completely exhaust the supply of Ukrainian soldiers, thus ensuring that when Russia eventually conquers Ukraine, it will not be able to conscript Ukrainians into the Russian army. This also has the additional benefit of costing Russia more men and resources the longer they keep fighting. The downside is the wholescale slaughter of hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian men, but that's a cost Zelensky is more than willing to pay.
