I've heard that the french army is very heavily professionalized and trained specifically for best result with minimum ressources, but I don't think our conventional military alone could garantee european safety. Either we make a "european" army, with the clusterfuck of issues that would come with it, or we try to convince everyone else France is ready to use its nuclear arsenal to protect some european integrity, by for example threatening to nuke some Russian city if they invade Poland.
