The thing about the bible is, it's the truth. It will tell you everything about the world we live in, for good or ill, and how to navigate your life as best you can. It's the history of human beings and how and why we came to have the values we do (again, for good or ill), and how to be a better person in this fallen world. The eternal salvation part is just the cool finale and the part that people really focus on. The rest of it is unflinching truth of this world and the people in it.
