It's already difficult to get people to help themselves when there are clear incentives (getting educated, starting a business, having children, etc), so encouraging guys to join larp groups that get in the way of these things when they're ostensibly supposed to help you improve your life is untenable.

When every member gives 10% of all income they make, then you can run businesses in the name of your denomination without being accused of being an infiltrator/grifter. Jews do the same thing, but they expand this further by having other strict financial rules for each other. They won't charge each other interest, for example.
